After a brief hiatus, the Wednesday Hodgepodge has returned – and I’m so glad it has.
1. What's something you miss about the 1980's? If you're too young to miss the 80's how about the 90's?
DH & I married in 1987, so that was a pretty good decade for me. DD turned 5 in 1980, so I miss those childhood years of hers.
2. Do you have a library card? If so, how often do you visit?
I’ve had a library card for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a family of voracious readers, and I have to admit that I was shocked when I first realized that not everyone was an avid reader. I live in a small village, so our library is small. But it’s part of a large regional library system, so I “visit” the library online frequently and request books I want to read … they get delivered to my library, where I can pick them up.
3. What's the secret to success?
3 Ps – patience, perseverance and perspiration (hard work).
4. This is National Backyard Games week...what's your favorite backyard game?
I enjoy playing washers. We bought DSIL a set quite a while back, and we frequently play when we get together at DD’s house.

5. If I dropped by today what would I find on your coffee table?
Um, nothing … I don’t have a coffee table.
6. Do you own a bicycle? When was the last time you rode a bicycle? Is that something you enjoy?
I have a bike and enjoy riding. I’ve not gotten out on my bike yet this spring (I can’t believe that – it’s been such a pleasant spring). There are hundreds of miles of bike trails in the county in which I live, and while there’s an access point not far from where we live now, we’d have to travel along a pretty busy road with very narrow shoulders. So we load our bikes onto our bike carrier when we go biking, drive to the access point and take off from there. Which means that we don’t always get out for a short ride like we used to … at our previous house we were a few blocks from an access point and could ride along through a quiet residential area to get to the access point, so we road frequently. One of our favorite things to do in Hilton Head is ride bikes … there are 50+ miles of bike trails, and we especially enjoy biking on the beach.
7. What's your favorite cheese?
It depends. I prefer cheese on/in something over eating it plain. A month or so ago we were shopping over in St. Louis and stopped at a quaint little deli where I had a turkey panini with smoked gouda … it was fabulous.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
DD needed a little break yesterday, so she called me to see if I wanted to join her while she did a little birthday shopping for T#2 (gifts and birthday supplies). We had a fabulous time … I love being with her, she makes me laugh in a way that no one else can.
Isn't that true about daughters, mine make me laugh and get all of my humor which is a plus. My daughter was born in 1981, so they are almost the same age.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you had a nice day.
washers... havent seen that in awhile
ReplyDeleteGood morning! My youngest two children were born in the 80's too. My daughter in 1986, and my youngest son in 1980. So he is the same age as your daughter. My daughter and I are the same way...we can make each other laugh with a look, haha, as words aren't always even necessary. Nothing like it is there? Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteLaughing....it's the best thing to happen in a day. Any day. Glad you two had some fun shopping for birthday items.
ReplyDeleteBut now....someday soon, I hope you'll describe how you play washers. I've never heard of it before. Guess I'll have to stop after my commenting here, and look it up on Google. Thank goodness for Google.
I've never played washers. I'm amazed at how many people don't have coffee tables in the HP today. Daughters are special : )
ReplyDeleteWednesday blessings to you. I love getting all caught up; I've never seen this game before and it looks fun. It is the second game this week that I didn't know about. Great gift ideas.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely have to check it out.
Have a wonderful day my friend.

I would have to drive to the closest bike trail too, but if I wanted to just ride in our neighborhood, it's a pretty perfect area for that.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of washers, is it like cornhole?
So glad you had fun with your DD. Isn't it fun to go shopping with them and just laugh and have a good time.
I never heard of the game washers! I will have to see what its all about.
ReplyDeleteIts always fun to go shopping!
I do think washers is a lot like cornhole. Washers might be a bit easier to transport, I think, since it is smaller.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great day with your daughter. My daughter and I spent lots of time together planning her wedding, which was 3 weeks ago... now it's a bit of a let down with nothing to plan!
Have a great day!
So glad you had fun with your daughter and you answer to #3 is perfect. No place to ride a bike around here except in the street which are narrow! Besides, no bugs, no rain, no cars the way I bike.
ReplyDeleteOur library is real small too - but if you order the books and can wait -they get me everything! sandie
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what washers is. Or cornhole. I guess I need to get out more. Love the bike path...looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI've never played washers or even heard of it! I think when I get my bike I will need to get a carrier for my car because the hills here are impossible. So glad you love to ride. I love cheese! Sounds like a wonderful time with DD.
ReplyDeleteWe have the game of washers, too!
ReplyDeleteI love your answer about the secret to success... the 3P's--that's a good one, and it's true.
I love spending time with my DD, too. We don't get to do that much now that she's baby sitting little Alex, and I miss our girl time.
Well, never heard of washers! Hummm........
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed with your bike riding. Wow!
Our daughter is coming on Monday and I cannot wait!!!!
never heard of that backyard game...
ReplyDeleteglad you had a good day yesterday..good for you!
Never heard of washers, I'm going to have to research that. So neat you have a great relationship with your daughter!!
ReplyDeletebetty
I was not familiar with Washers either. I have one big 80s thing that I miss though and I am not shy about confessing it. Big Hair!! I too has my middle and youngest daughters in 83 and 85.(THe oldest was in 74) I was working, had 3 daughters and was running amok in the 80s.... all with big hair and shoulder pads.
ReplyDeleteI have had a library card forever too. My girls got theirs when they started preschool and could pick out books themselves. My grandsons got theirs when they were in kindergarten. So many books, too little time.
We live 1000 miles from our girls and guys. I cherish the time we do have together. You are so right about the laughter. It's all good.
