We left dark and early (as opposed to bright and early … get it? ha!) Tuesday morning. We drove about 11 hours (but it took us 12 1/2 hours because we stopped for breakfast, for lunch, and for potty breaks whenever we needed to. DH is a sweetheart to travel with … every time we see a rest stop, he always asks if I need to stop … and if I do, he never complains). We crossed the bridge onto Hilton Head Island late Wednesday morning … and like always, I could literally feel my spirit lift as we drove onto the island.
We stopped at one of our favorite restaurants for lunch; after lunch we headed for our hotel, hoping that we could at least check our luggage so we could get in some beach time this afternoon. We were able to check in early, so we changed and immediately headed out for the beach!
I just know that God made me to be refreshed and renewed on the beach. I could stay here forever … except for one small thing … make that six various-sized things … DD, DSIL and my Ts.
I don’t know what these flowers are … they grow in bushes that form a hedge around the pool … and the scent is spectacular.
Here are some more shots take from around the grounds of our hotel.
We hope to be able to drive down to Savannah and see the tall ships this weekend … if we can pull ourselves away from the beach. That’s the only activity we have planned … we intend to spend the rest of our days here on the beach, at the pool, or in the bike paths.
Enjoy your trip!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are there! Have a wonderful time! ~Jeanne

ReplyDeleteEnjoy your vacation to the hilt, Kathy! Doesn't get much better than HHI! You should do a ghost tour in Savannah...most fun I've had in a long, long time!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you got there safe. Oh enjoy the wonderful beach and the fresh salt air. I am so happy for you.
ReplyDeleteI know it will be a very nice getaway for you both.
My hubby is like that too, always stops at rest areas and never complains. :) Hugs from me to you.
Hi there, Even though we just got back your beach shot makes me remember H.H. and how pretty it was-especially the trees etc. WE stayed at the Marriott and loved it. Hubby loved the golf there. Hope you have a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
I'm trying very hard not to be jealous! lol
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a most wonderful and restful vacation. It sounds just about perfect to me! Take lots of pictures for us to see please.
I believe those flowers, that you said you don't know what they are, may be Kim lilacs. They look like what I have in my yard and they smell heavenly. Mine are in bloom right now too.
Have a great time!
So glad you are on the beach and feeding your soul... that's what it feels like to me when I look out at the ocean and watch the waves on the shore. I live about 7 miles from the coast in NC. I never take it for granted. Enjoy....
ReplyDeleteIt looks so pretty! I can't wait to see more of your adventures!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!!! Those tall ships could be fun to see if you do decide to venture down to see them!

We just spent the weekend at North Myrtle Beach and I understand exactly how you feel! I think those flowers are Sweetspire. I used to have some in my yard before we moved and they indeed smell wonderful. May have to look into getting some for this house!
ReplyDeleteHave fun Nana!
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful that you and Hubby are able to get away to a place that you enjoy so much. I love the water, but am not a beach person. I do not like sand. :o) But, the sound of the water and the sun setting and rising over the water are awesome. Have a joy filled time!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting. Have a wonderful time!
