Remember how I mentioned HERE that I had to order more light fabric for my blue pineapple quilt that I was kitting up for retreat next month … I was pretty surprised that I was so very short on that fabric … I was sure that there should have been enough. But I bought that fabric May, 2013 in Paducah on our way to Florida, so I really couldn’t remember how much I bought … just thought sure I’d purchased about as much light as I had dark. Well … as I was organizing the sewing room for some sewing time yesterday, I came across more of the light fabric … a LOT more! I somehow managed to include that uncut fabric in my stack of cut fabrics on my marathon kitting day (I’m tellin’ ya, there was a whole lot of fabric to be kitted up!). I’m not sure if I’ll just use the fabric I have (so the lights will all be the same fabric … I have a mix of the dark blues) or if I’ll mix in a few other lights for a less controlled scrappy look. Either way, I’m going to be adding a nice chunk of fabric to my stash.
Speaking of time in the sewing room, I spent most of the morning and a good chunk of the afternoon sewing HST blocks into rows for DD’s chevron quilt … and am excited to say that I have my 16 rows all finished! I’m hoping to get back into the sewing room today and start sewing those rows together … and in a few days, I’m hoping to have enough rows together to be able to share a picture or two with you all.
Speaking of picture, after I finished the 16th row, I decided to call it a day … and DH and I ran to the camera shop in the nearby small city. I knew what I wanted, but I didn’t know what camera would fill the bill. Thankfully after sharing all my requirements, the clerk helped us narrow our selections down to one … and while it doesn’t have the view finder I wanted (we would have had to pay double the price and it was questionable whether the camera would be small enough to fit into my pocket or my purse), it does have the option to increase the display brightness so I should be able to see in sunny conditions. Hopefully I will no longer have to apologize for the poor quality of photos I post here.
After we finished up at the camera shop, we ran over to the small town where the grands swim … their team was having a fundraiser at the pizza joint. The kids worked for tips, delivering food … and the restaurant gave the team a small percentage of the proceeds. There was a good sized crowd, so it should have been profitable for the restaurant and the team.
There’s another swim meet tonight … hopefully the rains will stay away until after the meet is over. And speaking of the swim team, imagine my surprise when T#1 was chosen as an athlete of the week in the swim team town newspaper (lower right hand corner).
On the way to pizza joint last night, I got a phone call that my new glasses are in … I’ll be heading off to get them as soon as I wrap this up (their offices open at 10:00). I’m so excited … I’m getting rather tired of having to take my glasses off in order to be able to read anything on my iPhone. <sigh>
Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!
Kathy
I'm glad that you found the additional fabric. Maybe you will have to make two quilts.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the pictures from the new camera.
glad you found some fabric to work! always nice to find it in the stash. nice to see the grandchild in the newspaper isn't it and you are so lucky to have them near by. I'm so glad that mine are now old enough to text when they want to - it is so nice to have that little ding on the phone telling me a message is there and to realize it was one of the grands keeping in touch
ReplyDeleteGood morning! Always exciting to find fabric!! lol I have done that too a time or two over the years. Somehow you think you had it or bought it but it is eluding you where or when or if it was for sure. Anyway, glad you've got a BIG choice now. As for HST, oh my, I have decided I may not like them at all, lol. I do have a hard time making sure everything is exactly the same. (and mine rarely are btw!) I made up another pattern yesterday for a runner for my dil and you put together squares with different colors and they end up on point I guess it's called. My problem is my point are soo near the edge that trimming them up to make things square is soo hard, beings how you have to leave enough room to stitch them together without losing the point either...most frustrating. I finally got my runner together, but again I am probably looking for perfection and I am beginning to think it doesn't exist...at least for me, lol. I imagine it is just like learning to set in collars or sleeves or buttonholes....practice, practice, practice until it is no longer difficult. But!! suddenly making an entire quilt with the design I chose for the wedding gift (whole thing HST!) seems like a nightmare I am dreading...not exactly what I want to have quilting become. lol I am thinking of abandoning that project and picking another pattern. We will see. How exciting about your grandson and being athlete of the week!! Bet your buttons are popping! Mine would be!! And yay on the glasses too. I am constantly putting reading glasses on and off and on and off or looking for them etc. I wear contact lenses for distance. So I sure know how frustrating that is, but I guess I am getting used to it. Oh the things we must do. Enjoy your day and hope the meet goes well tonight!? Oh, and very exciting on the camera!
ReplyDeleteI hope your retreat proves to be fun and fruitful in completion or progress anyway... hope you take that slow stitching too in case a little zen is in order... so happy to see your T1 got published :) My blog reader is messing up so I just caught up on your blog post from Sunday too.. busy girl you are! Wish I could recommend a camera that did all that that you are wanting... Kathi
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun finding things you forgot you had...I do it all the time. Hope you enjoy your new camera, can't wait to see some photos. (I'm real bad when it comes to purchases with cameras and lens etc, my wish list is extensive but my pocketbook is not, I'm afraid I'll regret the purchase I make, so I end of keeping what I have, probably not a bad thing) Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to T#1. That's awesome!!
ReplyDeleteWe must see the new glasses. You'll have to share a pic with your new camera!
Have a great day!
My mind is continually blown by how much time and patience the whole quilting process takes, but it's so worth it in the end! I'm hoping and praying we get rain later...we need it here so badly! Have fun at the swim meet...if the rain holds off!
ReplyDeleteYAHOOO!!!!! A new camera! Cant wait to see your pics
ReplyDeleteNew camera, new glasses and pizza for dinner. Sewing during the day - sounds perfect to me. Can't wait to see the chevrons.
ReplyDeleteYou have such productive days. It took me all day long yesterday to make it to my sewing machine.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you got your camera and your glasses.
It will be so nice to be able to quit putting on and taking off glasses.
I love the picture of your grandson in that photo. He looks so happy.
Have a wonderful day today Kathy. Good job on finding your fabric.
What fun to 'find' fabric!!! I am really glad you found it before ordering more though. Congrats on getting so much done today and to the athlete of the week! Can't wait to see pix from the new camera. ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to T#1 on being picked athlete of the week! Quite an honor. So glad you found that fabric! I hate it when I am sure I bought something or have something and can not find it! I am glad you found a camera that 'fit the bill'!
ReplyDeleteWell, now you know you will have plenty, time to get cutting! LOL I am thinking about doing a chevron quilt for a king size bed and wondered what size HST you are using. I saw a tutorial on Missouri Quilt Co but the chevrons looked really large, trying to figure out scale.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you finally got some sewing time in!
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that with the missing fabric! : )
