The Weekend Wrap-up

It was a busy weekend, but thankfully (for you all) this wrap up won’t be too long since I pretty much covered Saturday already.

Sunday we got to cheer on our swimmers live and in 2
Here is T#2 swimming the 50-meter backstroke (in the second lane closest ... in the orange cap) … quite well, too.  She dropped a huge chunk of of time off her personal best.  Forgive the poor quality … all I had was my iPhone and we were a considerable distance from the pool.

I trimmed triangle blocks Sunday morning before we left for the swim meet … and I am 4 blocks short of having all my triangle blocks trimmed!  I really only need one of those blocks to have enough to piece together the top, but I’ll trim all 4 – just in case.  Winking smile  I think DD has decided on chevron, rather than herringbone.  I wish I had known that sooner rather than later because I have an easier way of making a chevron quilt than dealing with triangles (and trimming).  But it’s not a big deal … and tomorrow I’ll start piecing the top!  Since I’ll just be sewing together squares, it shouldn’t take too long … although I’m not sure about that as I’ll be piecing together 324 blocks (I’ll set them 18x18 to make a quilt 99”x99” … their bed is a queen-sized bed but it has a very deep mattress).

In the meantime, I plan to spend my afternoon working with my hexies, piecing blocks for my Martha Washington’s Flower Garden.  I have enough hexies basted for 24 more blocks which should give me a total of 50 blocks … at some point, I need to lay these out and determine just how many more I need … I’m thinking that I’m about ready to start putting these together and making a quilt out of them.  Hopefully all I’ll have to do after I piece these 50 blocks is to add the connector hexies and make the half blocks to fill in the edges/sides.  All this is brand new to me … I’m just figuring it all out as I go.

Am I the only one who was caught unawares that yesterday was the start of June?  Surprised smile  June!  Feels like it should only be the end of April to me.  Where in the world is this year going?

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

  1. my mattress is a very deep queen size also and I try to make most of my bed quilts 100 x 100 and that usually works - sometimes I make them a little larger to allow for shrinkage.
yes it doesn't seem like it should be June already!

  2. It sounds like you had just the kind of weekend that you love. I'm so very glad for you.

  3. Glad you were able to attend the meet! Yes, being away from home made May a short month for me and I can hardly believe June is here!

  4. Good morning! First, glad you got to go to the meet and cheer on your favorite swimmers! And then, YAY on being ready to piece the top together. I did look up your ruler tool, and it looks soo good. I am going to make my quilt from a charm packs and a layer cake so I am hope this will speed up alot of the process of putting together the triangles. My finished squares of course will only be then 4 and half, and I am hoping that is big enough too, but at this point it is what it is as I have already ordered fabric. And finally, as for it being June I am with you and can hardly believe it! JUNE!!?! How can this be? lol Enjoy your day! Oh and I am almost as anxious as you to see your hexies coming together in a quilt!

  5. Your weekend sounds 'picture perfect' to me!
No, you're not the only one caught off guard by the arrival of June!!!
I can't believe how fast this year is going by.
    Have a great week!

  6. So happy it was a great weekend! And the triangle blocks are about done - yay! You'll be ready in case DD changes her mind today before squares are sewn. I, too, am having a hard time believing it is June although w are having summer weather! Hoping you are enjoying yourself and your hexes... ~Jeanne

  7. So glad you got to be there to cheer the T's on. I look forward to seeing photos of DD's quilt and your Martha Washington hexies!

  8. The spring seems to be flying by to me too. Your weekend sounds perfect, can't wait to see how your quilts look.

  9. Hi Kathy, Happy June! Loved seeing your photos of the swim meet.
I keep waiting for the weather to show us summer is here-today was nice and tomorrow will be warm-yes! Life is still crazy, with selling my daughter's house and trying to find one closer to us for their family. Can't wait for it all to be over. Hope you had a great day and have a wonderful evening!

  10. Oh, a Chevron quilt! I can't wait to see that. I love Chevron!

And, I'm with you, where has this year gone? We'll be preparing for Christmas before we turn around twice.

    Happy week!

  11. I am happy that you had such a great weekend! I hope this week is special for you too!

  12. Yep it's June already!!! I'm shocked! I'm seriously hoping the rest of the summer doesn't go back as quickly. Sounds like you have a lot to keep you busy in the near future :)

  13. I think June snuck up on a bunch of us! Good luck with your triangle piecing this week. They should go together pretty well for you.

  14. Can't wait to see how pretty that quilt is going to be!
Congrats for T#2 for knocking that chunk off her time!

I am SO glad you stopped by! No proving that you're a robot here ... I want to hear what you have to say! ;-)
