Wednesday Hodgepodge

It’s Wednesday … and that means it’s Hodgepodge time!  Joyce over at From This Side of the Pond hosts our weekly fun.  Why not join in … just click the button above.

1. I've read several posts and status updates recently describing end of year school field trips. Do you remember taking school field trips as a kid? Where did you go and do you recall a favorite? For any parents responding today, have you ever chaperoned a school field trip, and if so where?
I don’t remember taking any field trips back in the day.  And as a single working mom, I was never able to chaperone one of DD’s school field trips.  Sad smile

2. What's something you're tired of seeing online?
I have Adblock Plus installed on my laptop, so I’m spared all the annoying ads online.  What I’m tired of seeing are all the political posts on Facebook … and we’re still several months from the upcoming mid-term elections.

3. June is the month for roses. Which of the following expressions would you say has most recently applied to your life-'everything's coming up roses', 'there's no rose without a thorn', 'came out smelling like a rose', or 'wearing rose-colored glasses'?
I tend to wear rose-colored glasses.  And speaking of roses: photo 1

4. When grilling outdoors do you prefer gas or charcoal? Who does the grilling at your house? What's the last thing you ate that was cooked on a grill?
I prefer charcoal, but it’s just so much work and takes so much time, that we use our gas grill when we grill outdoors.  DH is our griller, although I will grill when we’re going to have chicken (as he doesn’t have as good a handle on the concept of removing the meat the moment it is done that I like when grilling chicken … dry overcooked chicken is not a favorite of mine Winking smile).  The last meal we had from our grill was burgers and my mom’s potatoes … Saturday night when the littlest two grands were here.

5. Are you afraid of the dark?
No, not really.

6. Share a favorite song with a number in its title.
This wasn't easy.  7x70 by Chris August … I love the promise of hope.

7. "Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves."(C.G. Jung). Do you agree? Why or why not?
Oh yes, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realize that there is a lot of truth in that statement … and that the DH’s idiosyncrasies that frustrate me most are the very same ones that I struggle with myself.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
DD has confirmed that she'd like to go with chevrons.  So today will find me in the sewing room, sewing together all those triangle blocks ... perfect way to spend this rainy day.  Feels like I've been working on this for the longest time ... looking forward to seeing it come together ... and to get to the best part of all, the hand quilting!

Thanks for stopping by!

Kathy

  1. Chevrons will be perfect! Putting it together will be easy since you have the triangles done. It's stormy here this AM - good quilting weather. ~Jeanne

  2. I am so glad the elections are over so we don't get anymore of those irritating ads and phone calls.

Looking forward to seeing the Chevrons.

  4. Those political ads are definitely annoying!

Are those knockout roses in your photo? I've been thinking of getting a bush.

Glad the design of DD's quilt is settled. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

  5. Good morning! A rainy day sounds soo nice right now. It's suppose to be around 85 here today, which is nice but gets warm sitting at my machine. I am working on another scripture pillow. I am doing the design for the THIRD time...I keep making mistakes, lol. I know what you mean about dry bbq'd chicken...soo not good. When we are really trying to do it right, we cook it in the oven first, and then put it on the grill and brush it with bbq sauce and grill for just a few minutes. Soo good and juicy that way. Sent you an email on the Salmon. As for the chevron quilt, anxious to see progress as it comes along. Enjoy your day!

  6. Chris August is one of my all-time favorites . I had the privilege of seeing him at a small church concert a couple years back and I CRIED through that song 7x70. Thanks for putting the song out there today for me to listen to and be reminded how much I've been forgiven, and to extend that same forgiveness.

Let me know how the piecing of chevrons comes together. It's on my list of things to try but so far it looks daunting.

  7. I have opted out of several people on fb that had lots of political stuff... I know family isn't an option but friends sure are... just something to think about... I love having a quilty fb page and if someone asks me if I unfriended them I tell them that! lol Has worked great for my motivation too... Glad you dd decided on chevrons.. you will have fun laying that out and sewing it! I have a chevron quilt in my near future but no hst's ! Thanks for sharing so much ... you look great in your matching pair of rose colored glasses... I choose those too! Kathi

  8. Wasn't familiar with Chris August. Sounds like it will be a song I love--I will listen after posting this comment.
I was one of those Mom's that OFTEN accompanied the class field trips. With a degree in teaching, I think the teachers liked the fact that I knew how to manage a large group of kids. Aside from the usual local visits to businesses and sites, we did once take a bus ride to a zoo 1 1/2 hours away with my youngest son's 2nd grade class. I really enjoyed that!

  9. Had to come back and say that I LOVE the song and his voice! I will need to look up more of his stuff.
Though I came from a loving home, don't we all have things somewhere in life that we struggle to forgive? What a powerful message! Thanks for posting this!
