Tuesday’s Trivialities
Having a “day off” yesterday with absolutely nothing that I had to do felt downright decadent … and second “day off” today? I’m feeling spoiled. ha!
I finally was able to pick up my Kiss quilt and get in some quilting. Because I’m working on the outer edges of the quilt and because it’s a large quilt (96”x112”), it almost feels like I’m not making much progress. But I moved my hoop 3-4 times yesterday, so there’s some progress being made, even if it doesn’t look like it.
I got a heads up yesterday from my bloggy friend Kathi (who blogs at Design Originals by KC) that Brooklyn Fabric Company was having a fabulous sale on Civil War repro fat quarters … that’s just over $1.50/fat quarter … and from well-known designers, so it should all be good quality fabric … AND free shipping!! Needless to say, I placed my order immediately! And I got an email notification this morning that my order has shipped. Wooo hooo! I’ve no affiliation with them (never heard of them before), but this is a fabulous deal for any of you who love using Civil War fabrics … I thought I’d share. There’s still a couple of days left on the offer (unless they’ve sold out), so if you’re interested, check it out.
I even did a few overdue “chores” around the house. It felt good to be able to take my time, knowing that I didn’t have to get the entire house cleaned in one day. I’d also fallen behind on my “reading” … since I listen to audiobooks, I chose not to do much “reading”/listening while with the Ts. Yesterday morning, I finished up the book I’d been reading … The Invention of Wings. I didn’t realize, until I’d finished it, that it was based on a true story. I’m now “reading” Wish You Well … it’s quite a departure from Baldacci’s normal work, but I’m enjoying it … it’s reminiscent of To Kill a Mockingbird.
DD made the Dean’s List for summer semester. Given the summer she had (spending quite a lot of time in hospital, caring for her former step mom) and considering that it’s been 17 years since she has been in a classroom, that was quite an accomplishment. Her fall semester starts next week, and she’s looking forward to a less hectic semester. She was able to schedule her classes so that other than a study day, I won’t be need to be on Nana duty for this semester.
We are now just over 3 weeks from heading to our Happy Place. I never ever grow tired of this view:
I had another visit last night from my “pal” Insomnia. I got up and basted a few more hexies. Even with sleeping in this morning, I didn’t get anywhere close to enough sleep. Thankfully other than a Guild board meeting tonight, there’s nothing pressing on my schedule for today … just quilting and/or basting hexies.
I hope that whatever you have planned for today includes a little something that will bring some joy!
Kathy

Sounds like you are enjoying some relaxing days despite the sleep issues. I finally have a quiet house - think I'll do something for 'me' today!
ReplyDeleteBless your heart with your insomnia. I bet you do some of your best quilting in the middle of the night though :)
ReplyDeleteAh, we share the insomnia bug, DH never slept last night, and I was awake at 1:00 and up and dressed and in the sewing room before 2:00 a.m. maybe tonight will be better for all of us! On the bright side we do get some quilting done!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt! That is a huge quilt to hand quilt. Your stitches are perfect!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful and Blessed day

I'm so glad to hear things are calming down some and you got to spend some time quilting. Congrats to your DD on making the dean's list. Quite an accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteOnly 3 weeks! I think I may be a tad jealous. We still have 11 weeks until ours. :) You must post some pictures so they can help tide me over to our trip. lol
Hope you have a great day!
sounds nice relaxing two days in a row. great sale on those civil war fabrics. congrats to daughter on the good grades it is hard going back to the class room after many years I did that when I was in my late 30's and it was hard but I got close to two years of college in before I quit deciding it wasn't for me at that stage of my life.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet it feels good to be back into a more normal routine. Your quilting looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just need down time to recharge. Good for you for taking it! Glad you had some stash enhancement. That always helps, too. ;)
ReplyDeleteI have read (listened to) Wish You Well. It is one of my favorites.
I had a visit from "Insomnia", last night, too. I hope he doesn't come back tonight! Woo Hoo for fabric sales and trips to the beach :)

I'm so glad you had a day to catch your breath and congrats on DD's achievement. Insomnia is sometimes my "Pal" too.
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful that you finally have some downtime! So many think us retirees have lots of downtime - ha! Hopefully the insomnia goes away soon. Just keep the three week countdown going... ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are having some rest days, though I know not sleeping at night is so rough. Great job to your daughter. I can't imagine how she can get everything done and do so great at school.
ReplyDeleteYour fabrics sound wonderful. I need to check that out. How nice you have a trip coming up. I know you love the beach. Have a wonderful day.
Kathy, Glad you have gotten in a couple days of r & r.. before you leave for more r & r... sorry to hear that your dd's fsm passed but glad she is at rest now and your dd can refocus for the fall school term and activities too!
ReplyDeleteDid you know David Baldacci has a new book coming out? I think next month I read on his fb page... fyi! lol Hope you love the fabric when it arrives... can't wait to hear your review :)
Love how your Kiss quilt is progressing... soon you should be binding then washing and finally sleeping under it... hope you do some kissing under your kiss quilt too! ha!.. (been waiting for a suggestive opening... thanks for giving it to me!)
I have had a very busy yet productive day.. hoping for some r & r myself later this week. Kathi
Hi there, Firstly-wouldn't you know I've got all my fabric for the new quilt, but I may just have to go check them out-just in case. I had planned to start my cutting today and strip piecing, but had to go to a memorial service for a friends hubby-so didn't get to it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe tomorrow.
It feels so much like fall right now; wish I was joining you on HH, we could have some fun.
Hugs, Noreen
Enjoy your "free" time with your hexies~ "KISS" looks wonderful, all those pretty, even stitches! Thanks for the Civil War fabroc resource. Congrats to your DD! I know you're happily counting down the days 'til your vacation, lucky you... that is a lovely spot you've shown.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a day off. That is an awesome accomplishment for DD, way to go! I can't believe you are heading to your "Happy Place" again. I love how often you go.
ReplyDeleteYour "happy place" looks perfect.
