Wednesday Hodgepodge!

Yay!  It’s Wednesday again … and that means it’s time for another round of Wednesday Hodgepodge!  Thanks, Joyce, for hosting this fun meme.  If you all would like to play along, just click on the button above!
1. Have you ever been to the US capital-Washington DC? If so, what's your favorite site? If not, what would you most like to see on a visit to that city someday in the future? Is it even on your list of places to visit?
I’ve never been to Washington, DC … and believe it or not, I am not terribly anxious to go.  DH has a dream of taking US 1 all the way from north Maine to the Florida Keys.  If we do that, I’d like to spend a little time visiting some of the cities along the route … and that includes Washington, DC.  If we do go to DC, I think what I’d most like to see would be the Smithsonian museums.

2. When did you last attend a wedding? Are there any weddings on your summer calendar? Were you a summer bride? If you're single, is summer the season of your dream wedding?
I’m trying to think when I last attended a wedding … the last one that I can remember was DD’s best friend whose wedding was over 10 years ago.  Surely I’ve been to one since??  No, there are no weddings on my summer calendar.  At my age, our friends’ children are already married and our grandchildren are too young to marry … so there won’t be many weddings in the foreseeable future.  I was a December bride … a week before Christmas.

3. What is your favorite way to eat strawberries?
Oooh, I do love strawberries.  I love them on shortcake, on ice cream, just plain (if they’re fresh and sweet enough, they don’t even need any sugar).

4. What is one thing you are especially looking forward to this summer?
Since mid-September technically is no longer summer, I can’t answer that I’m looking forward to our trip to the Outer Banks.  I’m looking most forward to going to T#1 and T#2’s ball games.  It’s so much fun to watch them play, to play with T#3 and T#4, to share a bag of popcorn (or copcorn as T#3 calls it) or a slushie and just enjoy being outside on a warm summer’s eve.

5. Do you use/like the self checker at the grocery store?
Most of the time … but that isn’t very often since DH does the shopping.   If I do shop, I usually use the self checker because they do seem to be a little faster, especially now that I realize that the code is on the little label on produce.  I had such a hard time checking out at the grocery store because I couldn’t figure out how to ring up the produce and would have to get the attendant to help me.

6. Share a favorite piece of common sense advice.
If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.  While that’s sound advice for anyone at any age, I try to heed this advice as I’m getting older.  It seems to be a natural tendency, as we get older, to become more curmudgeonly … and I want to be an exception.

7. Barefoot, flip flops, tennis shoes, sassy sandals-your first choice for summertime?
Barefoot at home and flip flops when I go anywhere (well, except maybe church or work where I know I’ll be cold so I put shoes on my feet to keep them warm).  In fact, my favorite two pair are dangerously close to being worn out, so I will need to go flip flop shopping soon!

I was going to insert a photo of my feet with the tan lines from the flip flops I wore while we were in Florida in March … but I left my camera at DD’s on Monday … so you’ll just have to imagine tan feet with white stripes.  ha!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I’ve got a day off today … with a dental appointment just after lunch.  I hate, hate, hate going to the dentist.  I have been blessed with good teeth, but they do stain so very easily … so a routine dental appointment tends to last foooooorever because it takes the hygienist so long to clean my teeth … and all that time lying in the chair with my head lower than my feet results in a headache.

  1. oh I hate the dentist also. You do get a headache don't you - in that position. I also hate when they try to make conversation with you. How can you possible talk with all those things in your mouth? well be happy when its over!!

  2. Enjoyed this as always...and thanks for the tip on the produce, haha. I have only done this a couple of times and it was a DEFINITE problem. I had the guy behind me ring it for me. I think EVERYONE dislikes the dentist...sigh....I need to go soon. Have a good day!

  3. So you decided on the Outer Banks after all : ) We love it there.

I have been doing Invisilign for the past six months so have spent a lot of time at the dentist-ugh. I just finished which is exciting : )

I agree with your advice...we do get freer with our tongue as we get older I think. Not always a good thing!

  4. I kinda miss watching the little ones play t-ball/baseball. Not enough to just hang out at the ballfield, though...that would just be creepy!
    I don't mind going to the dentist...unless there's a problem!

  5. I can imagine tan lines form flip flops. Mine are the same way every summer. Hope you made it to Old Navy when they had their flip flops for $1.00.

  6. You can post your tan lines later in the summer. I love my flip flops! Love strawberries as well. A real summer treat for sure. Yes I have Raynaud's. That is another reason I love summer - i truely need the heat!! :)

  7. Agree with you-the older we get the more freer our tongues become. So I say this everymorning before leaving the house-"God put your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth." I keep saying this thought as the day goes on and on and on.....
Enjoyed your answers and have a good day.

  9. You the second person I have read that has no desire to go to DC. I am always barefoot at home, it's the best. I don't like the dentist at all and haven't been in a long time.

  10. I think the two of us may be the only ones who haven't been to visit Washington DC (and don't really mind). I'd LOVE to go to the Florida Keys!! It's on my "bucket list".

HATE the dentist with a passion. I can't remember the last time I went ~ isn't that awful!! I'm sure I'll pay for it at some point!

  13. Enjoyed all your answers, but especially #6. Oh, I have so many dental issues that it would not be good if I hated going. It's a regular part of my life. :o)

Have a great rest of the week!

  14. I really enjoyed DC when we were back visiting six years ago. I can't imagine living in that area (my sister lives about 10 miles out of it) but to visit was fun; lots of neat things to see and do! I bet planning a wedding in December was challening with the holidays!!

I use the self checkers for one or two items. I almost feel guilty doing so because we are taking away jobs, know what I mean? They usually have four self checking lines and one attendant. However, I also realize they keep just a few lines open with longer lines, catch 22 I think.

    Flip flops rock!!

    betty
