Another weekend has flown by. Even though I’m retired, it seems like the weekends just fly by.
Friday I finished up my quilt. I got the binding on and stitched back, the quilt washed and used! It’s 60x70, so it’s a good-sized lap quilt. And with my Raynaud’s, I’m always cold so that quilt will be well used.
I started cutting strips for my blue and white Irish chain quilt Saturday. I decided to do 2 1/2” strips so my blocks will finish at 6”. I don’t expect this quilt to work up as quickly because it will be a bed-sized quilt and I plan to do more quilting on it (including fancier quilting in the plain white blocks). We spent a good chunk of the afternoon visiting with our neighbors next door and spent the evening working on a new puzzle.
On Sunday we stopped to get our pictures taken for our passport applications on our way home from church. After lunch I got a start on sewing together a few of those strips I cut on Saturday. I’ve got a ways to go … like I said, this quilt won’t go together as quickly as the one I just finished. I tried a new recipe for dinner … it was good, but I doubt if I’ll make it again.
The quilt is beautiful. Do you use a machine to do your quilting or do it by hand?
ReplyDeleteI hand quilt, and it's my favorite part of quilting. ;-)
DeleteI know what you mean, even though I don't work anymore, the weekends still fly by!
ReplyDeleteSpending an evening with a puzzle sounds relaxing...
I saw where you'd booked your cruise...We'd tentatively planned one for our 40th anniversary, but we haven't booked anything.
Where are you planning to go? We decided we wanted to book early to be able to have more choices regarding cabin location.
DeleteGood morning! The quilt is just beautiful! Someday I am going to learn to do that....Your week-end sounds relaxing and perfect. Have a good day! HUGS
ReplyDeleteOh My what a loverly quilt! I bet the other one will be beautiful as well. What is the largest quilt you have ever made?
ReplyDeleteI thank you for your comment about Raynaud's on my blog. Yes, it's hard to explain how someone can get so cold in a house that is 72 degrees!
Have a good week! your quilts are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou hand quilted that? Amazing. Sandie
ReplyDeleteI love the colors in your quilt-so pretty!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is gorgeous! I'm already looking forward to seeing the next one! I'm currently doing a blue and white Irish chain too. I have about 2/3 of it quilted - hand quilting has slowed down since I'm learning FMQ and spend a lot of time practicing. Have a good week! ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteThe finished quilt is awesome. I love the color combo. Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteHi there and Happy Monday to you. I love your new quilt-it is beautiful and I know will bring you lots of warmth. I'm wondering what type of batting you use; I've always chosen pure & natural but it compresses so much I just switched to a poly-cotton batting so the lap quilt will stay thicker. Can't wait to see your new quilt-of course you are just starting but you should show us your fabric. Have a wonderful evening.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
I have always used polyester batting ... because my mom did, and what I didn't teach myself, I picked up from her ... including how she finished the edges instead of using binding :-(. I've always used a low-loft batting because I prefer the more old-fashioned, traditional look. I prefer polyester batting because I don't have to stitch so closely (I usually quilt about 1.5-2" apart, depending on the quilt) plus it provides warmth without the weight of cotton. I did try Warm & Natural once - but never again. It was so hard to needle; I'm told that's because of the adhesive they use to stabilize the cotton. And finally, I can get polyester batting at our local Wal-Mart at a reasonable price.
DeleteLove the quilt you finished. Have you had a passport before?
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to get mine last year. So if the dinner was good why don't you want to make it again?
