Another weekend is now in the history books (so to speak) … and time for a wrap up.
We got our weekend off to an exciting start with the installation of our new counters on Friday. I’m thrilled with how they look … even better than I expected. I posted a picture here, and I’ll share one last picture when the faucets are installed.
Saturday was a lazy day here at Chez Nana. It was a rainy day (thanks to Isaac), and we had nowhere we had to be and nothing we had to do … so why not just make it a lazy day? We watched some Cardinals baseball, a movie, some NCIS Season 8 … and of course I quilted.
After all Saturday ushered in the start of National Sewing Month … not that I need much of an excuse to spend time with needle and thread.
Speaking of NCIS Season 8, I finished it up. Bring on Season 9! Our local library doesn’t have a copy, but our library is a part of a much larger regional library system, so I can order it from my library who will request it from another library in the system. Unfortunately because Season 9 was just released on DVD on August 21, there’s a waiting list. I had hoped to be able to get all caught up on NCIS before Season 10 begins on September 25. But with the waiting list and our upcoming trip, I don’t know if that will happen.
Sunday we got the tail end of Isaac … we got a total of 2.7 inches of rain. We’re still significantly short of the amount of rain needed to “get caught up” from this drought we’re experiencing, but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t thankful for what we did get. We can see that some of our grass is greening back up … we were so afraid that we’d have to redo the entire lawn … while there are still significant areas that appear to be dead, at least there are parts that are making a comeback.
I was tidying up Sunday evening when I noticed that some of the blue in my log cabin quilt had bled into the white. I’d washed and dried it after I finished it up … since I’d prewashed my fabrics, I didn’t think I’d have to worry about the blue bleeding. After a couple of washes with Shout Color Catchers with some Shout Advanced Gel sprayed on the offending bleed, it appears that my whites are white again. Whew! Note to self: throw in a couple of Color Catchers every time when washing quilts from now on.
We’ve got a busy week ahead here at Chez Nana … faucets installed, hair cut appointments, sleepover with the grands Thursday and Friday nights , packing for our upcoming trip (we leave in 6 days … but who’s counting? ).
I've never heard of Shout Color Catchers. Will have to check those out.
ReplyDeleteAnd,didn't know there was a National Sewing Month. How cool! ANd, so, so glad you were able to get the white back to white. How terribly frustrating that would have been otherwise. Ugh!
Enjoy your day!
I hope you have a great Labor Day.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice weekend. Rain can be relaxing. I can't believe the bleeding of colors on your quilt. So happy you were able to get it out!
ReplyDeleteLove the counter tops! We got dumped on big time by Isaac. It's amazing to me how big those hurricanes truly are- we got the outer bands and we're on the Atlantic coast and then it just kept right on going up! The rain was nice though. I use those color catchers all the time. I have no idea how they work, but I'm sure glad they do!
ReplyDeleteOh boy, I'm glad to read that your quilt is once again white where it should be white....that was scary!!!
ReplyDeleteAs for season 9 for NCIS...we got it last month and watch it like a USA marathon. We're ready.
You mentioned 2 of my favorite things in your post today, the Cardinals and NCIS. I have watched all of the shows from the very beginning, never missing a one.
ReplyDeleteThe counter tops look great. I am glad that is done for you.
I absolutely love your new countertops! Isn't it amazing how something like that can tranform a room? I've always wondered if those Color Catchers really work...sounds like you're living proof! ;) Rain is supposed to be headed our way and I say...BRING IT ON! Have a good one, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to "fix" the quilt! I remember how happy I was when I got new counter tops...they make such a difference!
