Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's Wednesday ... and that means that it's time for some Hodgepodge.  Why not join in all the fun?  After you're done here, click on the button above to see what everyone has to say.

1. It was decided on Sunday the Denver Broncos will meet the Seattle Seahawks in this year's  Superbowl. So when was the last time you bowled? Not where you thought this question was going is it?  Do you like to bowl? Are you any good?
I cannot remember the last time I "really" bowled ... about 18 months ago, we had a Wii bowling "tourney" when my sister was here. I do better at Wii bowling than I do with "real" bowling.

2.   Should sports stars be role models?
Should they?  No, in an ideal world, teachers, police officers, Sunday School teachers, and most importantly, parents would be role models for our kids.

3. January is National Oatmeal month...are you a fan? How do you like your oats?
I'd like steel cut oats, with a little fruit (bananas, berries, or chopped apples), a dash of cinnamon, a few chopped walnuts and just a little brown sugar please. We used to have oats for breakfast regularly, but they're just too much work and take too long now that I've got early morning commitments (watching the Ts and walking with my neighbor on the mornings I don't have T duty).

4. What is one book on your reading list for 2014?
I don't know that I even have a reading list ... I tend to spend my free time quilting, rather than reading these days. But I do look forward to reading the next book in the Psalm 23 mystery series. I hope that it will be published in 2014.

5. What would you like your future self to say to your present self?
Keep walking ... our bones will thank you!

6. When scrolling through the TV guide, what is one movie title that makes you want to stop, grab the popcorn, and watch for a while?
Casablanca. I love those old B&W classics.

7. What are two style trends you hope never come back into fashion?
Bell bottom pants and leisure suits.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
I had such a nice, relaxed Wednesday. We finished the jigsaw puzzle we bought on our trip to the Outer Banks in 2012.

Forgive the glare - we finished it late in the afternoon, when the clouds overtook the sun, so I had to rely on indoor lighting.

I also got a good bit of quilting done. I finished the quilting here
and moved the hoop
It won't be too long until I can move the hoop again.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  3. Completely forgot about the leisure suits. Great looking quilt. What is the Psalm 23 mystery series?
Your answer to role models is absolutely right!

  4. Such a beautiful quilt, Kathy! I'm not a fan of bell bottoms, either! Of course, I did wear them when I was younger. What was I thinking?

  5. Oh yuck..I forgot about leisure suits.

Beautiful quilt and I love that puzzle. I've been thinking about getting one out lately. I have a really cool one (at least I think it is) that I bought awhile back and haven't done yet. Maybe tonight or this weekend.

  6. I love that puzzle! I also enjoy oatmeal for breakfast but don't always have the time so I make Baked Oatmeal. http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-living/recipes/baked-oatmeal/RCP-20049931 I wrap each piece and refrigerate or freeze. Out of the fridge, I microwave 30 sec. Out of the freezer 1 minute. ~Jeanne

  8. What is it about winter and old movies? I don't care to watch old movies in the summer, just the winter!

  10. That is just a beautiful and breathtaking quilt. Oh my gosh, I am so impressed with this. I like that you are hand quilting it. I always think quilts just look better hand quilted. My grandma would have been appalled at machine quilting.
I liked all of those answers, so you are not a fan of bell bottoms? That made me laugh as I loved them. I am not sure I would want them back but I did like them.
Have a good week, stay warm,

  11. I'd have to say that I would hope that jumpsuits never come back. They were dreadful when you needed to use the restroom.

  12. Your quilts are beautiful!

As for oatmeal, I like it hot with butter, salt and a bit of pepper.

  13. You mean there's a mystery series out there that I haven't read??? Must try to find those! Lovely quilt! And that puzzle looks like a fun one!

  14. Yes, parents should be great role models. I like my oatmeal the same way :) The Outer Banks is on my list of places I'd like to go on vacation.

  17. Keep walking... I love it! I always say if you stop moving, you're in trouble!

    I love puzzles!

  18. Me too, I bowl pretty good on Wii! Good advice on the walking, I need to start. You can change the effects of getting alzheimer's if you start walking in your 60's beside the other health benefits. Love the puzzle and your quilt looks wonderful.

  19. Oh, we were on the same page with the leisure suits! Hubby had a mauve colored one. Ugh!

What a pretty puzzle, you should frame it. :o) And, of course, your quilt is so lovely.

    Happy Wednesday!

  20. My mom used to teach a class on how to sew a leisure suit. Oh my.

I make a batch of steel cut oatmeal about once a week, divide it up in servings and keep it in the fridge. In the mornings it just takes a few minutes to warm it up in the microwave and I can add whatever I want to it then. I noticed my dad was doing this last fall and I thought it was a great idea. I am never one to spend time fixing breakfast.
