Winter Wonderland

The snow is here … heavy snow, up to an inch an hour at times.
The snow is so fine that it really doesn't photograph very well ... hopefully you get the idea.  And the snow is coming down even heavier than it was when I took that photo.  We are smack dab in the middle of the 7-12” band.  With heavy winds, that’s going to mean blizzard-like conditions, and the temperatures are plummeting so we are going to just stay home and stay safe (and warm!).  With nowhere we have to go, I have to admit that I’m looking forward to watching the snow fall … I’m definitely NOT looking forward to the cold weather that’s moving in (low of –10  tonight, high of 0 tomorrow, and low of –12 tomorrow night).  Thank goodness DH filled my van up last night … I think it will be running for a while tomorrow morning so it will be warm when I get in it to head up to DD’s.  Winking smile

All that cold and snow is perfect chili weather … and perfect quilting weather.  Not that I need much of an excuse to spend time with my needle and thread … ha!  I’m still working on my Storm at Sea … hand quilting is slow going, but I’m making progress … and enjoying the process, so it’s a win-win situation.  I’d show a picture of where I am now in my quilting, but it’s going to look just like the pictures I posted here, here, here and here.  I’m linking up over at Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching (edited to correct link).

Our Ts had another swim meet yesterday … T#1 is a little under the weather but still managed to swim well, even knocking off a little time on a few events; T#2 cut a lot of time off every one of her events; poor T#3 was DQd on two of his events but did well on the others.  I just love watching them compete.  Red heart

Hope you all stay safe and warm!

  1. Stay warm today. Chili and some corn bread sound like the perfect thing on a cold winters day. Enjoy your slow stitching.

  2. Great pic... and I thought I was cold down here in FLA! Nothing like negative temps to get you wishing for a cozy quilt to sew on and snuggle under while you do! Enjoy your slow stitching! Kathi

  3. That is the thing about hand quilting - if you don't do a different motif in each section then it all looks the same.

We are getting the snow too - thankfully the really cold temps have moved off temporarily.

  5. So glad I don't live in St Peters, MO anymore. We are going to be cold down here, but will probably not get any snow but there is a possibility. Hopefully the cold snap won't last too long, that is worse than the snow. Have fun stitching!

  6. The weather is awful here today. Snow is pretty to look at but not very nice to live with. :-)

  8. Wow a blizzard. Stay warm today and enjoy that stitching. I was looking through a Pottery Barn catalog and there was your Storm at Sea. I thought of you.
When it is cold my thought always turn to stitching up some quilts. I have been going through my patterns I have around here for some. I really would love to make a king size for my bed. The only problem, I can never decide red and white or blue and white. :)
Have a lovely day, watching the snow.

  10. Western Pa here...we are only to get 3 or 4 inches as rain will come first. Though it's pretty cold right now; not sure if it is going to warm up enough for rain.

Anyway the cold temp forecast is like yours, as far as I know. They say wind chills of -30 or worse on Monday night / Tuesday morning

  11. Hi there, Your weather sounds like ours but a bit colder! We have about 8" of snow on the ground and stayed in all of yesterday, aside from shoveling the driveway & sidewalk. Today we have to go to the market but I think the rest of the day will be quiet-watching football. I don't like going out when it is like this Tomorrow we are heading to the mountains for three days; we were hoping to snowshoe but it may be too cold.
Sending lots of love your way.

  12. What a cute little blog Kathy. Love your hand quilting projects, especially all the little hexies!!! It might be a quilting day here in Alberta as well today! We are at -32 C(-26F). It was so cold last night I didn't go out to plug in the car, I will see if it starts today ; )

  16. I clicked on the link and looked at your quilt. Love that blue. If you end up snowed in for a bit, maybe you will have some more time for your hand quilting. Take care.

  18. I'm in SW Ohio, and we're supposed to get the snow/cold later this evening. If we do get a lot of snow, I hope it is enough to get a "snow" day from work. Then I could certainly get some stitching in! Be safe :)

  22. Well, the wind is howling here and the temps are falling to 19 degrees tonight. Lowest temps we've had in 3-4 years. I'm thinking tomorrow will be a Gumbo and cornbread day for us. Stay warm and enjoy quilting.
