Saturday in the Sewing Room

I was able to get into the sewing room Thursday afternoon to begin piecing together the rows of triangle blocks (DD’s chevron quilt).  I was ecstatic when I got the first two rows sewn together … until I took a closer look while pressing the rows open. photo 1 (1)
What?  Surprised smile  That’s no chevron!  Ugh!  I had to unstitch and try again.  By Friday afternoon, I’d pieced together 12 of the 16 rows – in pairs.  photoNow that’s more like it!  That’s 4 of the 12 pairs of rows on my design floor … I like how my Martha Washington’s Flower Garden blocks photobombed this shot.  Winking smile

My plan for today is to get the rows all together to create the top.  If I’m still awake after dinner (I was up at 3:30 this morning Surprised smile), I’ll start cutting the borders … I’d like to get them sewn on tomorrow.  With any luck, I might be able to start the quilting early next week.

DH and I went out to check the garden yesterday morning … and look what we found -photo 2
photo 1Another zucchini and a tomato starting to ripen!  I may have even done a happy dance out in the backyard!  I love this part of gardening … seeing changes from day to day.  But enjoying our garden’s bounty is the best part of gardening!  Winking smile  And it’s beginning to look like that isn’t too far off.

Edited to add:  several of you have asked for the source of my new pressing table.  I found it online HERE.  I was curious whether I'd get it in time for my retreat, so I emailed them ... I got a very prompt response, and it didn't take long at all for the table to get here.  I was very pleased with their customer service ... and the table too (it's already being used in my sewing room!).

Hope you all have a spectacular Saturday!
Kathy

  1. The chevron quilt looks great so far - much better to find you mis-sew right away instead of after 12 rows! Hope to see a finished top soon. We don't have tomatoes turning red yet but we do have some green ones - I get so excited! I hope you get a good day of sewing in. Have a super weekend! ~Jeanne

  2. I have made those kinds of sewing mistakes too :) love the garden - we are looking at the same veggies I think - although it looks like my zucchini is limited to producing only 3 veggies - it better get busy and give me some more!

  4. Kathy I had to smile when I read the first several sentences about your chevron pattern and ripping out-you see that is an occurrence that happens with a lot of my quilts. I'm impressed you lay out your quilts on your floor-I used to but found I couldn't spot the errors unless I was looking at it on a wall in front of me. I'm still trying to figure out what quilting pattern to use for the Alaskan quilt.
    Have a great day.

  6. Oh your garden is great!! I don't have a single tomato that even looks like it is going to get ripe. I love your little zucchini. Your quilt is going to be so amazing. It looks so good. I bet you are having so much fun seeing those line up.
    Well have a lovely day.

  7. Good progress on the Chevron quilt! I hate it when I do things like that, I am sewing along thinking everything is fine and then, NO! thats not right! At least it was only two rows! The garden is looking good!

  8. Wow your chevron quilt is really coming together. I want to do mine in red and white but don't have the white fabric yet. It will probably be next summer before I get to it, too many other things going. I love the bounties of gardening also. I visit my garden several times a day, such a joy.
