Saturday’s Stuff

I haven’t been back to the sewing room since Wednesday evening, so I’m still at 13 almost completed rows.

Instead I’ve been preparing for my upcoming retreat.  I spent Thursday ironing all that fabric piled up on the couch … I wish I knew exactly how many yards of fabric I ironed … all I know was that it gets pretty warm standing over an iron for hours on end.  As long as this took, I can’t imagine how long it would have been had I ironed it using a standard ironing board … thank goodness for my Big Board.photo 1And imagine how much easier it will be to press 108” wide backing fabrics and my quilt top when I’m ready to baste.

Friday was spent cutting all that fabric.  I don’t have the dies I need to cut the 9 yards of fabric for my Nantucket quilt.  And because I have just enough fabric for T#4’s spiral log cabin quilt (12 yards), I’m cutting that fabric manually as well.  But I certainly intend to use my GO to cut the fabrics for my pineapple blocks.

I’m about halfway done through the cutting … I’ve got the Nantucket fabrics all cut and ready to go (they’re in the forefront), and I’ve cut all the lights for the spiral log cabin (the strips in the background).  I still need to cut the darks and then get to work on the fabrics for the pineapple quilt.  And I need to cut the border fabrics for DD’s chevrons … I have strip dies in the sizes that I’m thinking of using for her borders.

I won’t get much cutting done today … we’re going to leave in a couple of hours to go visit my dad.  When we get home, I need to bake another loaf of bread for DSIL for Father’s Day tomorrow … loaf #1 is in the machine now.

Have a wonderful weekend, y’all!
Kathy

  1. I love your big board - I have thought about them for "one day" when I have room for it but I fear that day will never come and really just need to get it and store in the closet for those in between times. It does get very hot ironing, sometimes I try to remember to put a fan near by.

  2. Yes, the iron does heat things up. Feels good in the winter but not so much in the summer. Hope you have a good visit with your Dad today.

  3. WHEW...yes, that was a lot of ironing. I imagine that big board for ironing really helps out. I don't know what I'd do with one when I wasn't using it though. If you could only see how I have things arranged as it is, lol. I really dislike all the cutting it takes for quilting...so I am always glad to get that part done. Felt like I was "cheating" with the charm packs, but it was really nice. However, I worked for just a while yesterday afternoon and only got about 25 HST's done. I did square them all up though too. I like to change tasks along the way so nothing gets to be too boring. Getting them all to be PERFECT was a little harder then I thought though, haha. Enjoy your visit with your dad. I am going to run around and shop, lunch, and see a movie with my sister while my hubby is visiting his dad in Arizona with our sons.

  7. Hi there, I spent a bit of time in my sewing room today but decided I really needed to go visit blogging friends. Your fabric is lovely-can't wait to see your finished quilts. The ironing board will make it easier I know. The old owner of our house had one too.
Hope you have a great Father's Day.
    Hugs,
    Noreen

  9. I always do LOTS before a retreat - it is just easier. I'm also a little more focused on what I want to do then. I bet you get LOTS done when you are there. Have fun! ~Jeanne

  11. Well, I've never heard of a BIG board. How interesting! But, I do know all about ironing, seems I do a whole lot of it. :o))

  12. Oh yum! Fresh baked bread!!! I used to make bread once a week, but I'd weight a million pounds if I did that now :) It sounds as though you have your current projects well in hand and ready to go as soon as you get the dies you need. Don't you just love having a fabric cutter? I don't know what I ever did without mine :)
