Wednesday Hodgepodge

It’s Hump Day … and time for the Hodgepodge!

1. The Summer Olympics officially begin this Friday night...will you be watching? If you could see just one event in person which one would you pick?

Yes, I’ll be watching … I love the Olympics!  In the Summer Olympics, I love the swimming and diving events especially.  So if I could see just one, it’d probably be one of the high dive events … that’s as much as I could narrow it down.  Winking smile

2.Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

I can’t remember a day where I did absolutely nothing (even my laziest days involve some quilting … since it’s so enjoyable and relaxing for me), so a lazy day is still a productive one.  And they make me feel rested and restored.

3. July 25th is 'officially' Threading the Needle Day...can you sew? On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being not at all and 10 being Betsy Ross-like, how would you rate your skill with a needle and thread?

One of the greatest legacies my mom left was love of sewing (right after love of reading).  She made sure that my sister and I learned to sew.  The first thing I remember sewing was an A-line skirt (have I given away my age yet? ha!).  I sewed all of DD’s dresses when she was a little girl.  I’d say that I’m probably an 8.  I won’t be threading the needle on Threading the Needle Day … the house is such a mess with furniture moved all over the place to accommodate the floor refinishers, so I don’t have a spot to sit and quilt … otherwise, I’d definitely be celebrating that day with a needle and thread! Red heart

4. 'Threading the Needle' can also mean to walk a fine line between two things or issues (think awkward social situation). When was the last time you had to 'thread the needle', figuratively speaking?

Probably when dealing with people of differing political persuasions, especially if those people happen to be family, and especially if they happen to be quite outspoken in their opinions.  Winking smile

5. Kidney, pinto, black, or navy...your favorite bean?

I like them all.  I love kidney and pinto beans in chili.  I always use black beans when making taco salad.  And I use navy beans in my white chili.

6. Have you ever hosted a garage sale? Was it more success or bust?

Yes, and I’ve sworn never again … too much work with too little to show for it.  Instead, I give away what I can and take the rest to Goodwill.  I do get a gift receipt from Goodwill so I can claim it on our taxes, so we do profit a little … probably as much as if I had a garage sale.  Winking smile

7. What makes you roll your eyes?

Probably when DH tells some of his corny jokes … he’s got a strange sense of humor, that’s for sure.  Red heart

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Today is our last day of being displaced.  We’ve run all our errands and done all our shopping.  It’s supposed to get back up to 107 today, so it’ll be too hot to do anything outside (oh if only it were cooler, we’d definitely visit the Lantern Festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis.)  So … what to do in the 6 hours before the floors are dry enough to walk on?  We decided to drive up along the river to Hannibal, MO.

  1. 107~ wow, that's hot. Enjoy your ride in your air conditioned car.

  2. good morning...looking forward to the olympics too. Love the swimming and diving. Couldn't agree more on the garage sale thought. Goodness, hours and hours of work for not much at all...haha. 107? oh no....soo hot. Try to stay cool!

  3. hahaha aww so cute about your hubby's corny jokes. Hope you have fun along the river!

  4. I've seen your quilts and I'd say you rank higher than an "8!"

  5. The Olympics have never held any interest for me- I certainly wouldn't watch the diving. Why? Because I'm scared to death they're going to hit their heads on the board! I saw it happen once when I was a kid and I've never watched again. An 8 on sewing? I think NOT! You're a 10 at least! Glad you're getting back in the house! Hope the floors are perfect!

  6. I can imagine that you would love to be sewing today instead of living in the chaos. Hopefully, you will have lots of sewing time as you watch the Olympics.

  7. Hope you enjoy your drive...cant wait to see finished pics of the floor.
Go girl - no laziness for you! Wish I could say the same :)
I'm with you - Goodwill is my garage sale.

  8. Isn't Hannibal where Mark Twain lived? I am glad you had a mom who taught you how to sew. I think it is so important that they need to know. My husband was son of a auto upholster , and in the summers as a teenager he worked in the shop so he has always known his way around sewing machines and sewing. So my sons also grew up seeing it and I tell you it is so handy to have a husband who can do upholstery. I bet you will be so glad to finally get to stay home. :) I hope your heat breaks soon.

  9. Hi, I hope you have a wonderful drive today; I didn't know there was a "threading the needle" day-how neat is that.
I too love the Olympics and am planning on watching-but I couldn't pick just one competition.
    Hugs, Noreen

  10. 107! Wow, I can't image that kind of heat! Stay cool and hope the floors are dry.

  11. I agree with "My Kids..." above. I've seen pictures of your quilts and you're awesome at sewing. Have fun driving to Hannibal

  12. I LOVE to watch the diving, but I like watching on TV so they can do the slow motion :) AMAZING what they can do!

  13. I am sure every one who follows you knew what your answer would be to sewing! We also make donations to Goodwill. Hope your enjoying your day. I would have gone to see a few movies! Can't wait to see your floors.

  14. ugh-that's HOT! I was thinking of you when I wrote that sewing question...I think your quilts rate higher than an 8!

  15. There is supposedly a new event with Tae Kwang Do I am interested watching with my grandson this year. sandie

  16. I love sewing too! I don't have a machine, but my love for thread, fabric and the scissors hitting the fabric bring me back to 7th grade home economics class.

Have a great rest of the day!

  17. 107 degrees??? I'd melt... A literal puddle in the corner somewhere... If I was down there I'd be curled up on the A/C vent and refusing to move!

  18. Hopefully the heat wave will break soon-107 WOW!

  19. With temperatures of 107, I'd be tempted to take a dip in that river that you'll be driving along :)

  20. I love parts of the Olympics, but really like the gymnastics. I'm sure I'll watch parts of it and maybe all, who knows??

I envy you sewers and yes, I well remember the A line skirt! However, if we had one it was probably ordered from Sears and I got what my sister had outgrown!

Oh, I have some of those same relatives! I have to hide them on Facebook so I don't say anything back!

I hope you enjoyed your drive and know you'll be so glad to be back in your house!!!

I am SO glad you stopped by! No proving that you're a robot here ... I want to hear what you have to say! ;-)
