It’s Wednesday … and besides being the middle of the week (aka Hump Day), it’s time for the Hodgepodge!
1. It's a brand new month...share one thing you're looking forward to in October.
Birthdays … my sister turns 60 at the end of the month, and my granddaughter turns 3 on the 15th.
2. Is chivalry dead? Explain.
If it’s not dead, it’s on life support. Part of the cause is from the overzealousness of early feminists who in their desire to be independent and self-sufficient went overboard and refused to allow men to do anything. Another cause might be the self-centeredness that has become so common. I think it’s a shame.
3. On October 2, 1950 the Peanuts comic strip made its debut. Which character is your favorite? Which character is most like you? (Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Shroeder, Snoopy, Woodstock, or Pig Pen) If you need a description click here .
I think I can relate most to Charlie Brown as I too struggle with insecurities.
4. What's something you're competitive about?
I’m pretty competitive about most anything … but I do confess that when playing games with my grands, I’ll let them win … until they’re old enough to beat me fair and square on their own, then it’s game on!
5. October is National Popcorn Popping Month...are you a fan? How do you like your popcorn?
Oh yes, I love popcorn. I love fresh kettle corn the best, but a close second would be white cheddar with regular cheddar in third. Hence I ordered the kettle corn and the cheese lover’s popcorns from my Webelo grandson.
6. When did you first realize the world is small?
I’m not sure that there was a moment where I realized that, but it’s obvious that with all the technology out there, with instantaneous news reporting, with high-speed travel, it is a small world.
7. In terms of architecture, what's the most beautiful building you've seen up close and in person?
Maybe it’s not beautiful in the same sense as the Taj Mahal is, but I think the Dana Thomas House in Springfield, IL is beautiful. (note: picture from the Dana Thomas House website http://www.dana-thomas.org/)
8. Insert your own random thought here.
I’ve got a couple of random thoughts:
#1 A group of people are meeting with the elders at church tonight … a growing number of us are unhappy with the direction of our church. Please pray that the elders will come with open minds and be willing to actually hear our concerns and then to prayerfully consider them.
#2 I want to share these pictures I took Sunday afternoon out on our deck.
As always, you can click on the pictures to get a better look at them. And if anyone can recognize the plant, please let me know. It was a start from a plant at my dad’s house … it was given to him and either he wasn’t told the name or has forgotten it. I love blooming plants, especially the ones that bloom in the fall.
Love your answer to #4 "Game on"! is right. I will pray for your church and it's Elders. My husband is an Elder and it's a tough job. I pray that yours will have open hearts and open minds.
ReplyDeletePretty plant, but I have no idea what it is.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. I'm sorry I don't know the name of the plant. Prayers for your meeting tonight. And I have been known to let the little ones win as well. :) Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteWow, what beautiful pictures! Church issues are hard and sometimes people behave in a way that makes me wince. Praying your meeting is filled with peace.
ReplyDeleteGood morning! Enjoyed all of this as usual. Praying for your meeting tonight! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteChurch issues aren't easy sometimes...will pray. Those flowers are beautiful and I love your pictures of them. Yummy Kettle Corn...love it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful butterfly photos and I will say a prayer today that the meeting at your church goes well. Those can be difficult, but they are necessary from time to time! I had never heard of the Dana-Thomas House, but it really is beautiful. I enjoyed the link! I hope you have a beautiful day!
ReplyDeletei loved your picture of the flower and I think your building is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLife Support... good way of putting it!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have one of those bushes & have butterflies all over it too ... great picture!
Prayer said for your church elders that they will attend the meeting with an open mind!
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are so pretty! I've seen that flower before, but I can't recall the name of it! I know that dealing with church situations is never an easy task...prayers are coming!I'm with you on the white cheddar popcorn...not a big fan of kettle corn, though. It's kind of strange because I have such a big sweet tooth.
I have been in the same situation in a church. So, I know how to pray! I hope there is a peaceful resolution.
ReplyDeleteWell said for #2. Praying for peace and unity at your church meeting.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I read about the meeting with the elders, my heart hurt. My husband was an elder and when our church started going in a direction that many people thought was bad, including us,they did everything in their power to stop it......but even as people started flooding away, the person who would not take their leadership just dug in harder. Long story short....HA.....five elders resigned, including my husband and we returned to the church where we grew up.
ReplyDeleteI will pray for a answer, I know God can change hearts and he does but when my husband was an elder and worship leader and finance director, when the church goes south there isn't much you can do. It just grieves me to hear it.
ReplyDeleteI was just reading snoopy today this morning waiting on my son. I thought Charles Shultz was quite a philosopher.
I also liked your answer to number 2 very much. I think you are right on.
Have you got your new machine yet? Have a nice day!
I really like Frank Lloyd Wright architecture... but have never seen one of his buildings in person. I want to some day.
ReplyDeleteDD2 has seen several of Frank Lloyd Wright's buildings and she loves them all! She's an interior designer considering a masters in architecture---guess that explains it. LOL Nice of you to let the grands win now---wonder if I'll do that when we get grands? It's a toss up. :)
ReplyDeletePraying that your church meeting will go in a positive direction.
ReplyDeleteLoved your answer about chivalry!
Had the same thoughts with question #2. Beautiful pictures. Praying for your church matters.
ReplyDeleteI am competitive too but I always let my grands win and I love buttered popcorn - bad I know.
ReplyDeleteLove it, chivalry is in on life support. That is certainly the truth!
ReplyDeleteHoping your church situation turns out as the Lord would have it to.
Yes, our little ones can win while their innocent but have to stand on their own one day. :o)
Enjoyed your answers!
I like being competitive, but I also just like playing games, win or lose, I just like playing games. I win about 40% of the games I play on FB with Word with Friends, but its just fun to play (and probably challenge the brain to come up with words).
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of the butterfly! Very nicely done.
It is so hard in church leadership and church direction. I just hope it doesn't get to be a church split; those always seem to not go well and do nothing to further God's kingdom.
may tomorrow be a good one :)
betty
Mmmm...Kettle Corn.... Not something to be thinking at breakfast, but, well, there I am anyway! LOL
ReplyDeleteI like old post offices. Love to photograph them when I can!
Enjoy those birthday. Great answer on chivalry. That is a beautiful home. I hope the meeting at church went well and your photos are beautiful.
ReplyDelete...that house you chose IS very pretty! As is the flowering plant. I have no idea what it's called tho. Oh, and your chivalry answer : on life support : cute - I like your style!!
ReplyDeleteThe flowers.....gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI adore three-year-olds; they was the cutest things. Have fun! :)
