The Weekend Wrap-up
It was “Weekend with the Littles” at Chez Nana … we had the 2 littlest of our grands over the weekend while Mama and Daddy took the 2 bigs to district swim competition in Columbia, MO. I picked them up Friday morning, and they went back home Sunday evening.
Friday was play day … we played some Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii, played dress up with Mardi Gras beads, and played a hybrid game with Legos and Play Dough shape-makers – I love how they can spend hours being entertained by the simplest and most unrelated things. I wasn’t able to spend the first day of National Quilt Month doing anything quilt-related, but you know, with the 2 littles over, I didn’t mind one single bit.
Saturday morning we had a big breakfast … T#4 had “dippy eggs” and bacon while T#3 had oatmeal … funny how multiple dishes were forbidden when DD was at home, but with the grands, no problem! We played some more until it was time to head to McDonald’s for some play time in their Play Place and lunch. After nap time, we played a little more Mario Galaxy 2 … and after dinner we had movie night (Tom and Jerry cartoons). We got in some Face Time with Mama and Daddy before bedtime … and got the good news that T#1 & #2 both were able to advance to Sunday’s competitions..
Sunday meant church followed by more play time … each day, they used the Legos and wooden blocks to create a completely different game. What vivid imaginations they have! I kept my iPhone handy, checking for updates regularly from the competition … and midafternoon we got the news that T#1 qualified for State with his butterfly! I think that’s outstanding since this is his first year on the swim team … especially considering that he got a late start, too (they’ve got little ones as young as 5-6 on the swim team). After naptime we headed to DQ for dinner, where we got the phone call that the swimmers were back in town. We stopped to pick up all their stuff and headed back to drop them off and to congratulate T#1.
The weekend is over … and while I’m going to be glad to get back to my regular routine, I don’t like how quiet the house is now … I sure miss those littles.

Congratulations to the swimmers. My grandma always made multiple meals for her fussy family :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love dippy eggs too
Sounds like a wonderful week end. It's always fun to spend time with the littles. :-)
ReplyDeleteThose little arms doing butterfly bring a smile to my face - I was one of those 5 year olds on the swim team and continued on until college. 100 and 200 fly were my events :) Good luck to him! What a fun weekend you all had!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful week. The pics are great!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great week-end was had a Nana'a house! Congrats to T#1!! That is quite the accomplishment, and soo exciting. Time to rest up! haha
ReplyDeleteI am sure you "goggled" rag quilts, and as you can see they are darling but super easy. Kind of feel like they are a "quilt cheat!" haha, but I do LOVE they way they look and feel. Felt like it was an easy way to get into quilting (maybe). If I enjoy doing these, maybe I will try my hand at the real thing. ; )
congrats to #1 on his swimming accomplishments!!! Does sound like a wonderful weekend for you Kathy!

Sounds like a fun weekend topped off by a great swim competition! We had 2 little ones all day Saturday - I agree the house is a little too quiet when they head home.
ReplyDeleteAre you in this next storm track? Looks like a lot of snow is headed our way! ~Jeanne
You are such a good Nana!!! I love all of the games you played with them. That is great news on your oldest grand. I had to chuckle about you making three things for breakfast. I do things for mine I wouldn't have done for my kids too.
ReplyDeleteIt changes doesn't it?
Well I hope you get to celebrate National Quilt Month this week.
Have a nice Monday.
Congratulations to T#1. That is awesome and it sounds like you had fun with the littles too.
ReplyDeleteWOW you must take good vitamins to keep up with all those activities! I know after 2 grand daughters, for a few hours, I'm ready for a nap!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to T#1 for so doing so well! Great job.
I bet you're a little on the tired side with a house as busy as yours this weekend :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear of kids playing with blocks & Legos & using imagination... not much of that anymore with all the tech-handy things kids use now.
You always sound like you have such a fun time with your grandkids. To me, making memories is what it's all about! That's awesome that T #1 and #2 are doing so well in their swimming competitions! Hope you have a Happy Monday, Kathy!
ReplyDeleteAwww! Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. Congrats to your T#1!!!
ReplyDeleteMy son is almost 26 and he still loves to play with Legos! Such a great toy!
ReplyDeleteYou know, ever since the first time you mentioned "dippy eggs", I've fixed them a few times for myself. ;)
National Quilt Month? I better get busy!
DQ sounds wonderful. I haven't had any in a long time. Sounds like a great weekend and how exciting for T#1! I know that I never made multiple dishes either but I'm sure I will when I have grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteOh, yea, bet your day has been awfully quiet. What a fun and tiring weekend. These little ones can wear us out with all their fun.
ReplyDeleteHappy week!
Congratulations to the swimmers! Sounds like you had a very busy, but enjoyable weekend :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing the difference children make in a home? Sounds like you made some special memories!
