Weekend Wrap-up

Weekend Wrap-up at a Defined Life

Once again, another weekend has come and gone.  Even though I’m retired, the weekends seem to fly by.

I had a very quiet weekend … the only thing on my schedule was going to DD’s to care for her cats and to water the plants they put in just before it got hot and dry.

On Friday, I watered the new plants I put in the landscaping along the east side of the house and noticed this:
Weekend July 20-22, 2012 001I should have laid a quarter next to the crack to give an idea of how big of a crack it is … I did measure it, and it’s 2” wide at the widest and 3” deep.  This is on the east side of the house, where it gets only morning sun … and is not the only one either.  Sad smile

Weekend July 20-22, 2012 001I mentioned, already, that my sweetie thought to check to see if our library had NCIS on DVD for rent … and brought home Season One.  Red heart  I had an NCIS marathon this weekend … and quilted while getting caught up on the NCIS team.  I’m ready for Season Two now.

Weekend July 20-22, 2012 001Sunday we spent our evening moving all our furniture and cleaning out our coat closet and our pantry in preparation for the floor refinishers to arrive tomorrow morning.

While I didn’t take this picture (DD sent it Saturday from her cell phone, hence the less-than-stellar quality), I had to share a picture of my new grandpuppy.  Winking smile
Resampled952012-07-219520-11-5195817Her name is Hollie, and she’s a Bichon/Yorkie mix puppy.  I hope to get to meet her face-to-face over the next couple of days.  Speaking of DD, they returned from their Colorado vacation late Saturday evening.  I can’t wait to see them (and Hollie)!  Red heart

I’m sure that by now all of you are aware of the horrible tragedy in Aurora, CO.  A fellow quilter Quiltingranny is hoping to be able to help those who had to respond to this horrible event by providing hand-made quilts or blankets and has asked for some help in putting out the request.  You can get more information at her website

  1. It would be neat to watch NCIS all the way from the beginning & in the right order. Maybe after I retire! :)
Hollie is so cute! She looks like a stuffed puppy dog!

  3. I've never watched NCIS...maybe this winter when hubs travels I'll get the series. We're into Friday Night Lights here right now. The quilt sharing is such a nice idea. Have a good week!

  4. Aww your grandpuppy is adorable! We watched a little NCIS ourselves last night. Isn't a quiet weekend just a wonderful thing! I know I sure enjoyed ours. Reading, watching TV, sunning a little and even some crochet (I just have 1 1/2 sides of the ruffled edge to finish and I'll have the baby afghan finished!)

  6. What a cute puppy. The dirt is cracking because of the heat, right? At my sister's house when the drought was so bad last year did that too.
I am so glad your floors will be finished this week.
    Have a very nice week.

  7. I've been off-line a few days, so I'm catching up...

Your newest family addition is a real cutie!

Lots of work getting ready for the floor re-finishing project, but so worth it afterward :)

Seeing your ground so cracked and dry makes me sad...

  8. I have never seen NCIS, which kind of surprises me because I like Mark Harmon. I'd have to start at the beginning too. I can't start in the middle of anything. I have to go back to the first book, program, etc. I like that he and Pam Dauber have been married forever.

  10. What a wonderful thing your friend is doing! I think most of us feel so helpless and are so stunned at this senseless act. My thoughts and prayers are with all there.

I love that sweet Hollie! What a cutie....I wouldn't want to be housebreaking her though...:))

I wish we could send you some of our rain!

  11. Well, Hollie is a cutie for sure!

What a great idea about the quilts.

Happy week to you and do get you a bag of Hersey Nuggets to enjoy while you quilt. (:0)

  12. We have natural wood floors in our dining room. I would love to pull up all the carpet in the house because the same original wood is under there. The house was built in 1948. But hubby thinks it would take a lot of work to get the floor back into shape, so I don't think it's gonna happen. - That puppy is precious!
