Wednesday Hodgepodge

Wait … it’s Wednesday already?  Where did Monday and Tuesday go?  But it’s ok … because if it’s Wednesday, then it’s time for the Hodgepodge!

1. What creeps you out?

Heights … oh, yes, definitely heights.  Creepy crawlies (like spiders, mice, and snakes) creep me out, too.

2. What's your least favorite candy?

It’s a toss-up between Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and malted milk balls.  I am not a fan of peanut butter (I believe that I may be the only person in the US who’s not).  And I’m not a fan of the scraping of the center of the malted milk balls on my teeth … I could add that to #1.

3. Are you a fan of scary movies?  What's the scariest movie you've ever seen?

I guess it depends on how you define scary movies.  What passes for a scary movie nowadays contains way too much blood and gore … so I’m definitely NOT a fan.  I do like a good suspenseful movie, like Gaslight.  The scariest movie I’ve ever seen would be The Birds … I have to admit that any time I see a large flock of birds, I freak out a little … maybe I could add them to #1, too.

4. What part of life confuses you the most?

The more I ponder this, the more I think that life is just plain confusing … and try as hard as we humans can, it’s next to impossible to make sense of it all … thankfully our God is in control and is able to lead us through the confusion and chaos.

5. Pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, poppy...what's your favorite seed?

I can’t say that any of them are favorites, although since I have to choose, I guess I’ll go with sesame seed … I love good breads, and since many have sesame seed on them, I’ll go with sesame seed.

6. Imagine your life ten years from today...what's changed?

My grands will no longer be “littles” … T#1 will be almost 21 and T#4 will be entering her teen years!  Surprised smile

Of course, I’ll be 10 years older, too … and I can only imagine what that will mean … I’m already learning (the hard way) that I’m not as young as I used to be.

7.  What do you a) love the most and b) like the least about the Hodgepodge?

I love the randomness of the Hodgepodge.  My life (and hence my blog) is full of randomness … so the Hodgepodge gives me a springboard for random topics that I might otherwise discuss here.  I really can’t think of anything that I don’t like about it.  Winking smile

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I got all the rows of my I-Spy Quilt sewn together yesterday.  I was all set to start working on the borders when my iron kicked the bucket.  I can’t sew on borders if I can’t press the seams nice and flat.  Since it was getting close to dinner time, I chose to call it a day.  I did some research and found a highly-rated iron at a very nice price – available at Wal-mart.  So I’m ready to get to work on my borders today … hopefully I’ll be ready to get it basted together tomorrow so I can start the hand quilting!

  1. I saw "The Birds" when I was just a kid and I've been somewhat afraid of birds ever since.

  2. I don't like heights at all. And rest assured you are not the only one that doesn't like Reese's peanut butter cups. I can't stand the salty peanut butter they use.

  3. Good morning! Well what do you know? Something we don't have in common? My very favorite candy is malt balls...I have always LOVED them, haha. The birds scared me to death too...just so errie, and I too cringe at large flocks odf them to this day. And yes, and iron is just essential when sewing. Hope you have a good day!

  5. I thought about listing heights among my creepy things, too!

Malted milk balls are sort of creepy to eat, but I like them anyway :)

  8. There is definitely a difference between scary movies and the horror and gore they put out today. I can't stand that stuff!

  9. Kathy...I could easily sit down and eat an entire box of malted milk balls in no time flat! Love 'em! Ooh...The Birds is one scary flick alright! Happy Halloween!

  10. Wow I don't like to think of grand children growing up that fast.
I am so glad your quilt got so far.
I hope you have a wonderful day.

  11. I don't like being up high either. Once at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville we were seated in the first row of the balcony. I was up begging folks a few rows behind to swap places.

  12. Your reaction to "The Birds" is exactly the same as my Mum's. She freaks out when she sees a line of birds on the telephone wires, or if there's a big group of them on a roof or something. She curses Alfred Hitchcock every time she sees them like that!

  13. Love your answer to #4. I hope you get to work on your quilt today and it's sad (sort of) that the grand kids have to grow up.

  14. We get the big assorted bags for Halloween candy and sort out the ones neither my husband or I like and put those in the treat bags first. That includes Sweet Tart Chews, Laffy Taffy and Whoppers. :)+

  16. CH & I watched "The Birds" a few years ago, and I couldn't believe people used to think it was so scary! The special effects now have gotten so much better!

  17. Hi there, Love your answers and I would add cockroaches to the list of creepy, crawly things. I spent yesterday working on the border but today spent the day cleaning for the weekend. Have a wonderful night.

  18. I freak out near a flock of birds too...thanks to Hitchcock. LOL I loved Gaslight! I totally agree about the blood and gore. I'll take a black and white horror flick over anything in color. And I'm not a huge fan of peanut butter either. See? There are two of us. LOL

  20. I will tell you - tonight when the kids were out trick and treating - there was a creepy man with a gas mask on - and no children. That creeped us out! I don't like heights either.

  21. Heights!! Ahhh, didn't think of that one. I am terrified of heights.
I like the random thoughts too. I think it's a fun way to end the Hodgepodge.

  22. You would be fun to go trick-or-treating with since I would enjoy all your peanut butter cups.
The Birds was a great movie and I still have the memory of seeing it with my older sister.

  23. I agree with you said about #4, so glad God is in control! It is hard to think ahead 10 years from now, but the time does seem to go by so incredibly fast these days!

hope you had a good day!

  24. I swear my reader keeps posts out sometimes. How did I miss you on Wednesday! Didn't see anyone else mention Peanut Butter Cups, I love them so much. Your littles will be so grown up while I'm still waiting to have one :( Sorry about your iron but I did notice Walmart had great prices. I got the nicest one that I keep at my dads for only $10. and it works great!
    Have a nice weekend.
