Wednesday Hodgepodge

It’s Wednesday again … you know what that means … it’s Hodgepodge time!

1. I included this quote (attributed to William H. Danforth) in my blog post yesterday... "The best cure for a sluggish mind is to disturb its routine." When was the last time you 'disturbed your routine' and how'd you do it?

I don’t know that I have a routine to disturb.  Winking smile   I’ve found that my best cure for a sluggish mind is to read.

2. What's your favorite fried food indulgence?

I rarely eat fried food, although I do have a hard time passing up sweet potato fries.

3. Did you have an allowance as a kid? What did you do with it? Do you give your own kids an allowance?

I had an allowance as a kid.  I usually spent it … unfortunately I was not a saver as a child.  I’ve not given DD an allowance for probably 15-20 years!  Winking smile  But I did give her one when she was a child.

4. What's something you wish you knew more about?

Maybe politics … specifically the candidates’ positions on various matters, so I could be fully informed on election day.  I abhor political ads (with all the mud-slinging and half truths [if not outright lies/misinformation]), and I don’t feel like the media does a fair job of presenting what the candidates stand for … so when election day rolls around, I am not as fully informed as I would like/need to be.

5. Is there anything you feel too old to do anymore? If so, what?

I can think of nothing that my age is keeping me from doing.

6. What's a song you think has a great first line?

I like music … but with my memory, I can’t remember a single first line … I’m lucky to remember the lyrics to the chorus.

7. Who are you writing to/for when you create a blog post? In other words...as you write, who is the audience in your head?

Ultimately I hope to leave behind a record of my days, but I also write for the friends I’ve come to know as a result of this inconsequential little blog.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I saw this on Facebook and just had to share it here!  And speaking of stitching, I’m on the home stretch with the quilting on my log cabin quilt.  I should be able to finish the quilting and get it bound by the end of the week.  That means I need to find fabric for my next quilt … a wall quilt for our bedroom.

  2. Can't wait to see the finished quilt! I'd like to know more about politics too - it's really hard to choose who to vote for sometimes.

  5. ..."get it bound"?!!! Remember I'm a novice when it comes to quilting....can you expand on that? I'm thinking that 'binding' is loosely stitching the batting? LOL Had to laugh at the brain and sieve ---what a hoot....that's me for sure. Oh yum, sweet potato fries...doused with sugar and cinnamon. Mmmmm. You and me both, I would like to learn more about politicking and abhor the campaign ads. AND!!!---the media, unlike what it was decades ago, is way to biased on one party or the other now-a-days.

  6. Awesome fortune cookie! :)

I was never a big fan of sweet potato fries, until I tried some in Nashville that were AMAZING!! Guess I just never had them prepared the right way. I'm wanting to go back to Nashville for 2 reasons now - to see my grandbabies & for those fries :)

  7. I like that saying. It cracks me up. Wouldn't it be nice if stitching worked that way?
I have enjoyed all of your answers this week.

  9. Hey, Kathy!
Thank you for your sweet note! I love sweet potato fries...much tastier than the regular fries and better for you, I'm sure. I like them sprinkled with just a tad of cinnamon. Have a good one!

  11. I agree, reading helps keep my brain sharp, too.

I've learned a lot more about politics than I've ever known, but you're right, the media puts their own spin on everything, so what's the actual truth?

Wow, you'd be doing some mighty stitching for it to be counted as exercise :)

  16. Hi Kathy, I love reading these answers-I too love sweet potato fries-yum! I too wish I knew more about the true stands of the candidates-specifically concerning medicare and taxation. I know who I'll vote for but wish the mudslinging would stop.
I'm still working on the baby quilt, hope I get it done in time(I think our little grandson is going to be born early).
    Hugs tonight.

  17. I think a book is a great answer because it takes you to a different place. Love Sweet Potato Fries. I agree with you on the politics stuff, I know so little. I write for my friends also but hope to leave it for family. Love the fortune cookie!
