Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Aloha! On August 21, 1959 Hawaii officially became a US state. Have you ever been? Upon arrival would you prefer an orchid or a hibiscus to tuck behind your ear?

I have never been to Hawaii.  And while I wouldn’t mind going, it’s not high on our list of places we’d like to go (if for no other reason than we’d have to fly to get there, and DH and I do not like flying – at all).  I believe I’d prefer an orchid.

2. Since we're talking tropical...what's your favorite food or beverage made with pineapple?

Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.  It’s not very tropical … but my carrot cake does have pineapple chunks.

3. Do you believe in soul mates? Explain.

As in finding someone who completes me?  Yes, and I have.  Red heart

4. Share a memory about the house you grew up in.

It was a tiny little house (when I drove by a couple of years ago, I swear it is half as big as it was when I was a kid! Surprised smile).  My sister and I shared a room … my mom asked us what color we wanted when she was getting ready to paint it.  We chose chartreuse … she tried to persuade us to go with something a little less intense, but we wanted chartreuse (we didn’t know the name, but we liked the color).  So we had a chartreuse room … until the next time she decided to paint … when we chose a fairly dark shade of periwinkle.  Winking smile

5. Are you comfortable with silence?

Very.

6. You spot a giant spider on your bedroom wall...what's your next move? (all spiders are giant, right?)

Get the swatter out and swat it … and then jump back in case I miss.

7. My idea of fun does NOT include ______________.

Amusement parks.  I don’t do rides.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Our existing counters are being removed this morning.  The installers will be out tomorrow to create the template for the new counters.  We will be without counters (and a sink) for about a week until the new counter is installed and our plumber hooks the water back up.  But the end product will be worth it!

  1. I don't do much in the way of rides either. I always say someone has to hold the stuff so you need me along : )

Carrot cake-I like pineapple in mine too.

  2. I'd like to go to Hawaii, but I don't like flying much either. I loved amusement parks and rides until I got stuck on a ride in 2008 in Disneyworld. It was a horrible experience and although I rode a few rides the rest of the trip, it turned me off the rides.

I have my soul mate too! I don't call him that, I do say he's my best friend!

  4. Good morning! I haven't done one of these in a while, but I would like to try and do this one if I get the chance...I don't fly either, but if the chance to go to Hawaii comes up, I WILL pop a pill of some sort and jump on. I really want to see it.

How exciting on the counters. Can't wait to see the finished project.

    Enjoy your day!

  5. Will you do dishes in the bathroom? I forget about all of those things. Really, you don't like rides?
I think it is nice you are comfortable with silence. That is always so important I think.
Very nice answers today, have a nice day. With the noise and chaos. :)

  6. Look at you with a new counter now... extreme makeover at your house! :)

I'm not a big ride fan either. I get too motion sick just in a car.

Pineapple in carrot cake? hmmm.... never heard of that.

  8. I've never flown either, so that could become an issue with visiting Hawaii :)
I've never had carrot cake with pineapple in it.
I love your answer about a soul mate. Short and sweet, and so true!

  10. Good questions! I have to say that Hawaii is worth the plane ride.

  11. I don't do rides for the most part either EXCEPT one time when we had our 3 year grand daughter and she dared me to go on a ride with her. I did it!!! Then she went on the ride again alone this time just to prove she was big enough to do that! She is a dare devil! Watch out world!

  12. I don't do amusement parks either. Nor will you see me on a plane headed for Hawaii! I make sure there's room to jump back too with the spiders. LOL

  13. Hi Kathy!
I've been to Hawaii one time and I'd go back in a heartbeat! Best vacation I've ever been on in my life! So much to see and do! I love silence, too...gives me a chance to clear my mind and have a little one-on-one time with God. Have a great day!

  15. You could take a cruise to Hawaii :) My hubby and I think that would be a real fun way to see the islands...but would have to save for a long time because they are quite expensive...but no flying :) I would love to know what your cake recipe is! Sounds yummy!

  17. Flying isn't my favorite but sometimes it's the only way to go. So now it's your counters. You guys are really doing a lot of upgrades, way to go!
