The Weekend Wrap-up

What a busy weekend.  Lately it has seemed that my weekends were quiet, with nothing much planned/going on.  This weekend was 180 degrees different.

Late Thursday night I finished up T#4’s big girl quilt.  I had hoped to get it done by Christmas, and for a while there, I wasn’t sure I was going to make that “deadline”.  (I enjoyed my time back at work, but it sure did interfere with my quilting. ha!)  I’m pleased with how it turned out, in spite of an inaccurate 1/4” sewing foot on my machine (which I didn’t realize until I had cut all the pieces for the stars and were sewing those blocks together) … but the love and prayers put into that quilt should make up for any sewn-off star points.  And DD thinks it’s her favorite of all the quilts I’ve made … and that’s good enough for me. I got started on my next quilt … one that I’ll keep.  Here’s a picture of the pattern I’m using (in fabrics similar to what I’ll be using).

It should be an easy-peasy quilt to piece … cut fabrics into strips, sew 5 strips together and subcut into either a checkerboard block or a strip block.  I managed to get strips cut and sorted and a good number of strips sewn together … but I still have a ways to go.

Friday night I was offered the chance to watch the 2 little ones while the rest of the family went to a small group party.  To celebrate Advent, DD purchased 25 Christmas books (books that either told the Christmas or celebrated the spirit of Christmas).  She wrapped the books and put them under the tree … and each night a book is read at bedtime.  I was thrilled when DSIL asked if I would like to read Friday’s book.  Red heart

Saturday the “bug” hit DD’s house.  The two littles tested positive for strep throat, and by late afternoon, mama had fallen victim.  Thankfully DSIL called me for some assistance, and a phone call to her doctor got an order for an antibiotic so she didn’t have to go to the Urgent Care Center.  DSIL left for 3 days of training Sunday afternoon, so we took dinner over last night.  I got the kitchen all cleaned up/under control, watched Stuart Little 2 and helped put the little ones to bed.  Thankfully DD was feeling a little better by the time we left … I’m praying that a good night’s sleep tonight will help her feel even better tomorrow.

  3. Your quilt is seriously amazing! What a beautiful heirloom to give. My secret sewing project is a throw quilt for each of my daughters. I have three done and one more to finish. Hopefully it will be done this week.

Don't you love being close enough to your grandbabies to help them out when needed? I love it!

  5. Cute idea with the books! I was on another blog where they took all their already at home Christmas books and Christmas movies and wrap them up and put them under the tree and pick a book and a movie a night to unwrap from December 1st through Christmas Eve. I thought that was cute too! I like DD's idea definitely! Sorry about the sicknesses though! Never fun especially with DD still recovering from her surgery. Glad you are there to help out; I know it is appreciated by all, especially DSIL knowing he had to leave, knowing everyone was in your capable hands! The quilt looks great! Made with love, that is all that matters!
