We skipped the Hodgepodge last week, thanks to Superstorm Sandy and the resulting power outages. But we’re back this week and are off on the second 100 Hodgepodges!
1. What rule of life should never be broken?
Never take those you love for granted. Life is too short to let anything get in the way of making sure that those we love know that we love them.
2. What's your favorite family recipe?
What I refer to as “Mom’s potatoes”. She’d fix these every time we’d cook out on the grill, and as a result, so do I. I’ve passed them down to DD, who would need another grill in order to have room for 6 pieces of meat and enough potatoes to feed 6.
3. Is the media manipulative?
Yes. I can remember when the media simply reported the news … and we drew our own conclusions. Then there was a very subtle spin … now the spin is no longer subtle. Unfortunately the right is now as guilty as the left … to where I cannot find an objective source for “just the facts, Ma'am”.
4. Hubs and I saw Skyfall last weekend...are you a fan of the Bond films? If so, who's your favorite Bond?
I wouldn’t call myself a fan of the James Bond movies, but I would say that my favorite 007 would have to be Sean Connery. I mean, with that charming accent and those good looks, what’s not to like? And on a non-Bond note, it doesn’t hurt that he’s aged quite well.
5. What is one thing you hope people never say about you?
I would hope that they never say that I’m unkind or uncaring.
6. What's a nearby tourist attraction you'd like to see, but haven't gotten around to visiting?
The Cahokia Mounds. We pass by it every time we go to St. Louis … I can’t believe that we’ve never visited.

7. Where's your favorite tree?
The Angel Oak on Johns Island in South Carolina.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Today I’m thankful for:
- The beauty of God’s creation … the Angel Tree, the Rocky Mountains, the oceans
- The travels that DH and I have taken … to see so many of those beautiful sights
- Gas fireplace … just flip the switch and instant heat
- DVR … last night’s NCIS was recorded, and I plan to spend some time this afternoon with needle and thread while getting caught up on NCIS
I so agree with your answer to number one. Family is so precious and we should never take them for granted.
ReplyDeleteA very nice set of Hodgepodge answers. That looks like it would be an interesting place to visit. Have a great Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI have never been to The Cahokia Mounds either. In fact, I had never heard of it - now I'm interested.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have seen one James Bond movie. I love that tree. Reminds me of a tree I saw in Hawaii.
ReplyDeleteHope your staying warm!!
We love the "Angel Oak" on John's Island as well.
ReplyDeleteLoved your answers. LOL about Sean Connery!
ReplyDeleteLots of people mentioning the Angel Oak today. Those mounds look interesting. I've never heard of them-what's the back story?
ReplyDeleteI do like Sean Connery, but Daniel Craig portrays a more conflicted and flawed man plus he is super easy on the eyes : )
Enjoy your day!
The Angel Oak reminds me of the oaks on St. Simon's Island--simply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day!
mmmm... potatoes.... mmmmm
ReplyDeletethat tree is awesome!!!! I've never seen anything like that in person before!
NCIS was good last night!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of the mounds...I'll have to put that on my list!
Love NCIS! I haven't seen last night's episode either, but I hope to watch it tonite. : )
ReplyDeleteAre they baked potatoes or something else?
ReplyDeleteNCIS was good. Hope you enjoy it.
I'm amazed how similar some of our answers are...pretty neat, I'd say! I really have to check out that Angel Tree...so many have mentioned it. I love beautiful, old trees! Chris loves watching NCIS...would you believe I've never watched a single episode?
ReplyDeleteI have the same opinion about Sean Connery. The accent makes my knees weak. ;-) I like Daniel Craig's Bond movies better though.
ReplyDeleteHi there, I agree with you about Sean Connery. I won't even get into the media. Hope you have a great afternoon filled with great episodes from NCIS and of course a needle and thread.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
That tree is beautiful! I enjoyed reading your gratitudes today :)
ReplyDeleteOne should never take family for granted. I always tell my family Never leave the house angry or go to bed angry. Have a great rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteHello, nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteI like your answer to the first one, that's a good one.
I put the SAME tree! Are you surprised? LOL And I completely agree with you on the Sean Connery comment!
ReplyDeleteOkay now I am going to have to see that Oak tree.
ReplyDeleteWhat are "Mom's Potatoes?" Just your description sounds wonderful.
I bet you are a sweetie pie.
I am in total agreement no one could ever be Bond after Sean Connery. I like Danial Craig pretty well but well Sean Connery is just cool. :) With hair or without.
I really enjoyed your questions today.
I agree -never take things for granted - appreciate it all. And I do think the media is rotten! lol sandie
ReplyDeleteI took my grandkids to Cahokia Mounds in September. I'd been trying to get that on the schedule for a couple years, and this year it worked out. The museum is great. I remembered going on a church picnic at the mounds (49 years ago!) but that was before the museum was built. I didn't remember anything other than Monk's mound, and I don't think they had the concrete stairs then. And, I hadn't heard about Woodhenge, so we had to drive down and have a look at that too. It was a nice way to spend a couple hours--I'll bet your oldest T's would love it too.

May we have the potato recipe, please?
Your mom's potatoes sound delicious. I hope you share the recipe! Isn't it interesting how we live close by to a tourist attraction and never take the time to stop and see it? We lived 500 miles away from Glacier National Park in Montana when we lived there; a place people worldwide came to see and we never went to see it the whole eight years we were there. But we did go and see Yellowstone and Old Faithful, so I guess at least we did something "touristy" while we lived there :)
ReplyDeletebetty
We have some similiar answers! I love the fact that we bloggers who have never met still enjoy so many of the same things, anad often think the same way. I guess that's why we blog! ( :
ReplyDeleteOh wow...I forgot entirely about Angel Oak in South Carolina. My hubs is from the Summerville and I loved visiting the Oak. Still....those banyans were wonderful...so it would be my second choice.
ReplyDelete...some of the younger generation have often told me Bud looks like Sean Connery. Hmmmm.
ReplyDeleteI'm now adding those mounds to my must see list! Wow. Those are just cool!
ReplyDeleteSo many people have mentioned the Angel Oak. I didn't know about the tree before today. It's a magnificent tree! I hope you have a good week and I enjoyed visiting your hodgepodge.
ReplyDeleteI so agree with your comments on 1 & 5 particularly. I also have a favourite potato recipe that our whole family loves on http://robbiebago.blogspot.com.au/2012/11/potato-slice-recipe.html
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading more posts.
Great answer for #1, life is short and if we don't love today, than when? Sean Connery was my favorite too. What a beautiful tree. Hope your weekend is going well.
