Monday Morning Sunshine

After a couple of cloudy days, it was nice to see the sun shining this morning … even if it was only 29 outside.  <brrrrr>  There was no snow on the ground when I got up this morning, but the rain puddles had frozen. Thankfully the sun is shining brightly, so it doesn’t “feel” cold sitting inside (outside is another story – ha!).

I was invited to join a group of women from church for breakfast at Denny’s this morning.  I’m not a fan of Denny’s nor of big breakfasts (if I’m going to have a big breakfast, I’d rather have it for dinner Winking smile), but it was nice to be able to join them and become a part of their group (they meet for breakfast on the 2nd Monday of every month).  I’d been feeling so isolated over the last couple of years, and I can’t begin to tell you how good it feels to be included.

It’s going to be a fairly busy day today.  We have small group this evening, and I need to review this week’s lesson.

We’re going to have a water softener installed this morning.  We installed a humidifier last winter, and our water is so hard that the humidifier is already clogged up and not working.  I suspect that with a little work, we can unclog the tubing, but with the water hardness, it will only be a temporary fix.  And that makes us wonder about the rest of our water pipes/tubes.  We’ve talked for a few years about installing a water softener, and the clogged humidifier has clinched it for us.

Today is DH’s 62nd birthday … he’s now eligible for Social Security.  I guess that makes it official … he’s OLD!  ha!  Between the water softener installation and small group tonight, we won’t be able to do anything special today … but I think a trip tomorrow to his favorite restaurant on The Hill in St. Louis is in order.  ;-)   In the meantime, I’m going to fix one of his favorite meals for dinner this evening.

Today I’m thankful for:

  • My dear hubby … he’s truly a gift from God

  • Our veterans (and those who are currently serving) … and for all they gave so we could enjoy our freedom

  • The fellowship of Christian women … and the blessing of being connected

  1. Wishing your hubby a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY today! So happy you've found a women's group to be a part of. When we lived in AL. several years back, I had a women's group at church that I was very involved with...I miss that. Sorry about your water troubles. Our water heater bit the dirt over the weekend...not good timing with the weather turning colder! We checked around and Home Depot was going to charge $400 for the water heater and...get this...$600 to install it! We about fell over! So, thankfully, Chris is quite handy. He found a local plumbing company and bought a water heater for half the price and installed it himself in less than an hour! Works like a charm!

Stop by today if you get a chance and enter my giveaway! Would love to have you join!

  6. So glad you found a group to become a part of.

We have very hard water too. We put a water softener in shortly after we built our home. So glad we did.

    Happy Birthday to your hubby!

  7. Kathy, I tell you girl, I think we are joined at the hip sometimes. When we first moved to Colorado, I was sooo lonely and so missed my friends back in Ca. It is hard to relocated when you are retired-many ladies already have all the friends they need and want. Blogging helped me so much in this area and over the last several years, I became close with other gals through our Beth Moore studies. Tell your hubby Happy Birthday. Have a great evening.

  9. How nice that your husband can get Social Security while there is still some left. :) Are you feeling better now? It is easy to get isolated.
When I had my first daughter I had always worked and it was so hard to be at home all day by myself.
I was thinking about that today being in a empty house.
    I like small group studies.
I need to start one up again with my girls.
So glad I got by before Tuesday. :) I hope you have a nice week planned.

  10. I am so glad you found a ladies group to get connected with, I have that with the ladies from my small group. It's nothing scheduled but I always know there is someone that I can connect with...some days you just need an encouraging word :)
Hope your hubby had a nice birthday.
I am also not a fan of Denny's but do like breakfast for dinner. Have a nice week

  12. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR DEAR NOT OLD HUSBAND! Age is just a number. Good look with the water softener. We used to have one when we lived in Chicago but they don't use them in Georgia. Glad you had a nice time with friends at your breakfast. sandie
